20 week scan profile, has sonographer revealed gender?

We had our 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago and changed our minds about wanting to find out the gender of baby just before we went in. The sonographer was so lovely and told us exactly when to turn away so as not to give anything away, however when looking at our scan pic I can’t help but feel like she’s accidentally given away that baby is a boy? Or is what we’re seeing actually a shadow of part of baby’s leg? I’m not sure if it’s possible to see gender from a profile shot and not a potty shot? I wouldn’t have thought she would have printed us this pic if that was the case seeing as we’d asked for a surprise, but now I can’t shake the feeling that I know the gender. Any thoughts?

I think it's a nub so you could in theory work it out from there? Both girls and boys have nubs, depends on the angle.

SnooperTrooper12345 · 20/02/2021 20:53

That's the nub.

It is possible to guess from there.
However its not 100% accurate.

But no, she hasn't given it away

Analysethat · 20/02/2021 21:01

I think you are being too precious. Just be happy you have a nice photo of your healthy baby.

Hey1993 · 20/02/2021 21:03

Thank you both for your comments. I thought the nub wasn’t a thing after a certain point, so just presumed it was boy bits!

Oh I absolutely am over the moon with our healthy baby, please don’t get me wrong. It’s only the little niggle in my head telling me I thought I could guess the gender! And obviously I’m not taking anything away from the sonographer, she did such a great job!

I thought the nub evolved into the genitals by 20 weeks? I’m not sure but I think it does look like a boy in the first pic!!

Okokokbear · 20/02/2021 21:09

You're being really precious. The scan is to check your baby is healthy and developing normally. People seem to forget this and think it's just about getting a picture of your baby. It's a medical check. Are you actually expecting her to do the job around you accidentally seeing what you might think are genitals?

HavelockVetinari · 20/02/2021 21:09

It's the umbilical cord in both pics. Baby's leg is in the way of genitals.

Cinderellashoes · 20/02/2021 21:10

She isn’t being precious! Stop being so bloody spiteful and mean. She’s asking a simple question, she said already she’s thrilled with her baby. God some people Angry

ConeHat · 20/02/2021 21:11

It's not a nub past 16 weeks. But that's not say it's not a cord or something else

PurBal · 20/02/2021 21:11

We found out we are having a boy and you honestly couldn't tell from our 20 week picture. I think it's just the angle.

SendMeHome · 20/02/2021 21:12

I’m fairly certain that’s the umbilical cord, not the nub or genitals.

Hey1993 · 20/02/2021 21:15

I’m sorry that my post seems to have come across in the wrong way. That really wasn’t my intention. I don’t at all expect the sonographer to change what she’s doing to keep the gender a secret, I would much rather them be able to complete the scan and checks thoroughly. It was purely just an observation based on the scan picture after feeling very lucky everything is going well.

Congrats OP! Flowers

I am terrible at deciphering a baby scan. I can see the head and body and that’s it Grin my DD had her arm out in one and I could see that but below the belly area...no chance. Wishing you all the best for a healthy pregnancy and baby!

Analysethat · 20/02/2021 21:38

@Cinderellashoes
The OP is on here making the assumption that the sonographer has given her a picture of her baby which purposely shows the gender.

That in my eyes is being precious, regardless of the OP means it or not. Who really cares if can see it or not, just be happy baby is healthy.

Oh and by the way, why is that when you don’t agree with someone on here you are automatically called “spiteful” and “mean”

I think that does look like a boy, though I've got these wrong before! What a beautiful baby, congratulations either way!

The OP is asking for opinions on whether people think the picture shows the sex. She clearly states that if the sex can be determined from the scan images that she believes it to be completely unintentional, I did not pick pick up any criticism or malice directed towards the sonographer.

NinaMimi · 21/02/2021 03:41

You asked a reasonable question OP and didn’t come across badly at all. Some people are just nasty and like lecturing people.

As to your question I can’t tell as I’m terrible at reading sonographs.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 21/02/2021 03:46

I think it looks like the cord in both pics. My very definite boy picture didn’t look like that

Don’t apologise - some people are just not nice and can’t help trying to make others feel bad for absolutely no reason.

It’s an exciting time for you and part of the fun over the next few months will be wondering if it’s a boy or girl. Good luck OP Smile

custardbear · 21/02/2021 05:20

I thought cord. Honestly I don't think you've got any info there - but your guess may be correct - or it may be a girl - enjoy your baby and pregnancy 😉

@DeepFakeQueen

I have no idea what people are looking at, I can’t see cord or Willy or leg

It's the 2 little lines which are sticking up which is the nub which people are referring to and yeah that generally indicates a specific sex...:

But I do agree with other more honest posters.....the OP has got a lovely photo of her baby - what's more important- a lovely keepsake to cherish or being precious that it might reveal something she didn't want to know?

calmearth · 21/02/2021 07:48

I'm a sonographer, obstetrics and general. That's the cord. Also well done for cropping out your identifying details and nhs number! Most people on here don't bother 😆

Freshair85 · 21/02/2021 08:04

Definitely the umbilical cord!
