Which way to take progesterone pessaries?

Hi everyone, I’m 6 weeks and will be picking up my progesterone pessaries later today. When I had my consultation the doctor said I could take the pessaries rectally in the morning as sometimes it leaks out during the day if taken vaginally, and then to do it vaginally at night because I’ll be lying down in bed.

She said absorption is better rectally as it can’t come out, so I was thinking maybe it’s be less messy and more effective to do them all rectally? But then I read online that if you’re having pessaries to maintain a pregnancy that you should always take them vaginally... I’m confused!

Is anyone here taking progesterone that could help let me know which is best? Thanks!

I take them for incompetent cervix from 11 weeks have always taken rectally. Tired for a week vaginally and found it horrid, so messy and irritated my cervix x

I use them vaginally but the daytime one is slightly messy. only the first hour or so because of the waxy coating comes out.

It’s not too bad, I just wear a pad. The nighttime one is fine.

X

Thanks everyone! I just put one up my bum earlier haha. Think I will try to continue this way, I’m a bit worried about irritating if I put them in my vagina. Quite paranoid about all the fluids coming out there at the moment as it is xx
