Is there a link between how you react to MC medical management and induction?

So I'm getting to the stage where I'm starting to think about giving birth and I know I'm at high risk of having a late baby (if there's a risk factor going, I've got it!) So I'm expecting to be offered an induction at some point (obviously hoping everything happens naturally but preparing for the worst).

I know the first stage of induction is being given prostaglandins, which I believe are the same as what they give you for medical management of a miscarriage? With my MMC the medication didn't work at all and I needed a second dose. They told me that would work in 2-3 hours but it took more like 20 hours with painful cramps and unable to sleep due to sickness/diarrhoea the whole time. I wanted to know if this means I am likely to have the same experience with an induction or if it's actually really different. I don't know whether I'd be better pushing for a C-section if it gets to that point?

I also had a medically managed miscarriage at 9 weeks that didn't work. I had all the medication they could give me, stayed in overnight bleeding huge clots, but then miscarried the actual sac 4 days later at home following spontaneous contractions.

Both of my labours for my children started spontaneously (at 37 and 39 weeks respectively), but i did have induction medication with my first as I wasn't progressing and the labour stopped. It worked fine and I didn't need a c section. For the second, i only had pain relief.

This is a great point and something I hadn’t thought about! Medical management didn’t work for me either - the sac had actually grown by my next scan after it and I ended up with an MVA! Interested to see the answers and currently 36+3 and also thinking about birth.

Just an update from me - I did end up getting induced and the first two gels didn’t work at all but the third worked at super speed, to the point where the medics didn’t believe I was in labour and I was fully dilated and pushing by the time they eventually sent me to delivery (and even then they only sent me ‘for a check’). Obviously no idea if that’s linked but just in case anyone finds this thread in the future and wonders how it worked out.
Hope all is ok with you, OP. Xx
