When did morning sickness start?

Hi all, I’m 5+6 today and have had what I can only describe as a hangover type feeling since Friday. I feel ridiculously tired, headachy (On and off) and have a constant “Sick” lump feeling in my throat which sometimes goes when I eat, and doesn’t other times and fluctuates throughout the day. I don’t feel like I’m going to be sick as such but that feeling of “Sick” is definitely there! Has anyone else had anything like this? I thought this was too early for morning sickness or if this is the start? Have had sore boobs/very firm and nipples too which also vary in soreness throughout the day. Was just wondering if MS usually starts later than this or if it’s something else? Have an early scan booked on Saturday so will be 6+4. Praying for a healthy baby in there! Thanks in advance Smile

Mine started pretty much bang on 6 weeks! Didn’t leave until 17 weeks unfortunately 🙈

I didn’t have any morning sickness, but I defo had nausea & a virus like feeling from before I even knew I was pregnant (that’s why I tested), so around 4/5 weeks pregnant. The nausea & sheer exhaustion stayed until about 15 weeks

PippityChippity · 15/02/2021 11:20

@Newmama29 The virus/under the weather type feeling is exactly what I have. Don’t feel horrific but feel out of sorts and just not “Right”. I’ve been tired since about 4 days after I got my BFP and am finding it really hard to concentrate on work without a nap in the afternoons! Very grateful to be WFH at the moment! The nausea is definitely there through that lump in throat feeling, just in varying degrees throughout the day.

When I was pregnant I read a big meta-analysis on the pregnancy sickness support website. They looked at multiple studies to find various things about morning sickness, and one thing was that the average start day for it was 39 days pregnant (so, 5 weeks 4 days).

They classified morning sickness as nausea and/or vomiting.

I felt a bit nauseous but was only actually sick once at about 13 weeks. I think nausea started about week 9 but I felt absolutely wiped out exhausted from about week 6-7 onwards till about week 15/16. Had really sore boobs from the very beginning and they're better now but still fairly tender at almost 24 weeks.

MrsB2019x · 15/02/2021 11:25

Mine started around the same time as yours with that exact hungover feeling! Wasn’t physically sick until 12 weeks. I’m 14+3 now and still feeling ropey on some days

Newmama29 · 15/02/2021 11:28

@PippityChippity yeah I just felt extremely exhausted 😴 I would sleep for 12 hours at night then still need a nap in the afternoon, it was a killer! It gradually got better after about 12 weeks then returned again in my third trimester 😂

mariebaby3 · 15/02/2021 11:45

6 weeks for me. Settled at about 17 weeks but still having the odd moment at 18+. I did feel better once I actually started throwing up as it seemed to kill the nausea a little!

Rosieposy89 · 15/02/2021 11:53

I'm 9+3 and nausea started about 5 weeks, it was very on/off but around 6.5 weeks it really ramped up and feels constant now. I have vomited a couple of times, but retch and gag a lot. I get that sick feeling in my throat too

HanLoch · 15/02/2021 12:18

6 weeks on the dot. Hangover type feeling which got worse and worse. Occasionally vomited in the mornings but otherwise 24/7 nausea until 16 weeks sadly!

Birchtree4 · 15/02/2021 16:55

Yes nausea also started for me 6 weeks on the dot, with a build up for 2 days. I had pretty severe nausea and was having to force myself to keep down pitiful volumes of food, so was started on cyclizine in week 7. It made a big difference for me.

Now in week 11, almost completely off meds and only really struggling with nausea in the evening, going to sleep helps.

I know I am by no means out of the woods but I am going to assume that my worst is over! The things that have helped me were:

Cyclizine
Dont let stomach get empty
Snacking often (was only able to do this after started on meds) i snack on digestive biscuits, fizzy sweets, crisps (especially corn based ones like monster munch) as well as trying to have decent breakfast, lunch and dinner if you can manage.
Lots of sleep whenever you can! I'm in bed at 8 most nights!

heartcurrent1 · 15/02/2021 16:58

2-3 weeks with 1st continued entire pregnancy
4-6 weeks with 2nd lasted until 26 weeks
6 weeks on the dot and am currently 18 weeks and still very sick,
I've had hyperemesis 3 times.

LunaDreams · 15/02/2021 17:01

Mine was around 6 weeks, a hungover feeling exactly as you describe it. Some days are worse than others, have been sick once so far. I find that as long as I keep some food in my stomach I can keep it at bay. Nausea comes back with a vengeance when I'm hungry!

2021mumma · 15/02/2021 17:01

It started at 5weeks am 11 weeks now and still very nauseous on 2 different prescribed drugs by doctor that has helped stop the actual sickness but not all day nausea

ExcitingTimes2021 · 15/02/2021 17:31

Mine started at 5 and half weeks. Just felt really rough, like a bad hangover rough. That then progressed to vomiting pretty quickly and lasted till around 13 weeks for me. Currently 14+5 and just had that constant hungover feeling for the past week. After so many weeks of throwing everything up I’m very thankful for just feel rough 😂 x

NC866 · 15/02/2021 17:40

Totally normal. In my first pregnancy it started just before 6 weeks, in my second it was a bit sooner, about 5 weeks. A hangover feeling is very normal in the first trimester even if you don’t throw up. It might step up in a week or 2 or it might not, everyone's different. Congratulations!

Sunflowerx · 15/02/2021 20:53

Like a few others on this thread, bang on 6 weeks! I'm 6+3 today and have had horrible waves of nausea on and off since Friday. Normally of an evening for my but brushing my teeth always makes me gag haha

PippityChippity · 16/02/2021 08:08

Thanks all! Glad to see (Oddly) that my body wasn’t totally off with how it’s feeling. Still that same lovely feeling of nausea with a lump in my throat this morning/feeling shattered despite having nearly 10 hours sleep. Sounds like I’ve got it mild in comparison to some of you ladies but I won’t remain too confident about it staying this way, particularly as today is week 6 exactly, so fairly early days! Hope all of your pregnancies are progressing well!
