Does anyone have any tips for helping with constipation in early pregnancy? I'm 6 weeks today and maybe a bit tmi but I can't remember when I last went to the toilet!

I struggle with this too OP! I found dried fruits, apricots in particular helps. Also very very diluted coffee for some reason!

Oh, and also - a low stool to pop your feet on while you're on the toilet. The position helps things along! I didn't believe it would work - I was very happy to be wrong!

Can I add exercise to the list too? I often find that by the end of my daily walk I'm ready to go!

Haribo bears...my midwife recommended them with lots of water and it actually worked!

Tarantallegra · 12/02/2021 15:35

I tried everything that's already been said and nothing worked, I ended reaching a critical point (you really don't want to know but my advice is speak to your GP if nothing works because you do not want to go through it).

I'm now on Laxido which seems to be working and I have some Glycerol suppositories for emergencies. So far I haven't needed them as the Laxido is really doing the trick. Lactulose did nothing at all but it tasted very nice!

Are you taking iron tablets op? They are known to cause constipation. If you are, ask you doctor if you could switch to spatone(liquid iron)

Otherwise I’d suggest fresh orange on an empty stomach :)

Prune juice works well if you can stomach it!

mayihavesomecakeplease · 12/02/2021 18:28

I posted a thread about this earlier this week -- isn't pregnancy lovely? Four days on and I can confirm that lactulose is great, and prune juice is tastier than I had expected.

feistymumma · 12/02/2021 19:19

Experiencing the same OP, I got some luctulose, dried prunes and figs so I am taking the luctulose daily and about four prunes and 2 figs. So far so good. Everything else failed, I tried oats, fruits, veg etc. Good luck op

Ginandshinythings · 12/02/2021 22:00

@starlive23 omg I'm trying your suggestion, nothing else works for me!

katiemumma20 · 12/02/2021 22:14

Everything everyone has already said plus a hot water and lemon first thing in the morning before you eat. And trying to get into a routine of going at the same time every day x
