Hello

Anyone else had the depo and had this problem? I had my last depo in February 2020 and it was due again 12 weeks later, I had a period, and spotting for two months from the end of may. I then had a ‘normal’ 5-7 day long period at the beginning of august. I now have had no form of spotting or bleeding since then.. very worried. I’m only 21 and I feel so abnormal & worthless, am I broken?😩 what can I do to get periods? Anyone had similar? I know online it says it can take up to 2 years but most people are within 6 months....

Hello, when I came off the pill after the initial bleed I didn’t have periods for a year and I felt the same as you - like there was something wrong with me. After 6 months I went to the gp, they fobbed me off for a while but I said I wanted to try or a baby so they referred me for fertility treatment. All that takes a really long time to go through, and I had other symptoms coming back due to pcos like acne and hair loss so I ended up going to a private endocrinologist as I got nowhere with the nhs one. He put me on metformin and within a few months my periods came back. They are now regular like clockwork every 30 days.

Definitely go to your gp but be prepared to have to insist a bit - sometimes our bodies just need ‘waking up’ again after a long time on contraception. Xx

Interesting.. thank you! Maybe private will be the option for me. I just feel silly phoning if I’m going to be fobbed off. Even more silly when I say I want to start a family at. 21, they’ll probably laugh in my face! Thank you so much, I’ll have to bite the bullet and just phone them!

When I stopped Depo it was 14 months after my first missed jab before I got any bleeding at all. Then I had random cycles anywhere between 15 and 49 days for a few months. Settled down after that and I conceived first time (unfortunately didn't stick) on about my 4th cycle once I'd become regular. Then conceived again 2 months later.

From my last jab to DC1 being born was 3 years and 3 months.

Wow, that’s crazy isn’t it.. my mum had it and didn’t have issues conceiving or anything but if I’d have known I wouldn’t have had it at all. Thank you & I’m happy you managed to conceive after all of that😔

No it isn't. I reported it as scaremongering quackery and it was removed.

Some totally unfounded crap about it giving you cancer. Best ignored.

Things that can (and worked for me) to kick start period/ regulate cycle:
Angus cactus
Soy isoflavones
Acupuncture

Update, I phoned and basically just got told it can take a year or longer and not to try get pregnant until I have periods.. so I think I’ll just have to wait and then phone again in a few months as it has already been over a year now🙃. Not much help, so that’s that!

I was on the depo and it took me 2 and a half years before I could get pregnant.

Totally different circumstances to yours but I had it after my first child - it was an awful time and I ended up having lots of investigations but did actually get pregnant naturally in the end. I was later told by a contraception specialist it should never have been offered to me as an option as I was clear I wanted more children, ideally with a 2-3 year gap - bloody GP!

ShannonMarieW · 13/02/2021 11:10

Oh no..
I actually started my period after my post yesterday! So fingers crossed. I won’t be having it again after all of this. I’m glad you eventually managed! Xx
