Does yellow book contain baby's sex???

Hi there if any midwives out there can help that would be great. I'm really annoyed I just had a midwife appointment at 40+3 and it wasn't my usual midwife and this lady really didn't seem very professional...in fact she was the lady that did my booking appointment over the phone and I didn't click with her at the time and I sure as he'll didn't today. Aside from telling me to wait as she was dealing with an emergency with a pregnant lady(didn't need to know that!), not reading my notes, not checking what my name was - 'are you the overdue girl?' telling me my partner should never have been alollowed to any of the appointments, sounding shocked that I hadn't had a covid test, telling me my baby was big because I'm tall (I'm 5'4)....all of which I can let slide...

But She said to me 'so you're having a little girl.'
Has she just told me that my baby is a girl? Would she know from looking somewhere in my notes or is she just talking more crap????? I said no we don't know..and she just sort of backtracked and then continued to refer to the baby as a she???

Sorry for the rant its just really upset me at a time I just want to be reassured.

Does anyone know if the gender is in the yellow book in midwife code or something?

Thanks for any comment

She sounds a joy!

I have never seen the fetal sex noted anywhere in my notes. Did you have an extra testing ? Harmony etc?

Dorset555 · 10/02/2021 13:05

I don't think I've had any additional tests but I've had a fair few growth scans. I would imagine if there was a midwife code then there would be lots of Internet posts out there telling people what they mean?
Its really annoyed me! I'm hoping if she couldn't be bothered to check my name it bodes well for her not having checked much else
..not that that's reassuring for a midwifes appointment...gah Confused

That sounds bad but she does come across as a overworked or maybe she’s just generally incompetent. Maybe it’s different for different trusts but I don’t think it’s normal to note the sex. Maybe one of the scan pics gives it away, but I wouldn’t think so. I would think it’s likely that she was thinking of a previous patient who was having a girl.

Thanks very much for the comments I've been feeling bad about giving her a hard time but to be honest I had the exact same experience at my booking in call with her :-(
I'm just going to let it go and try and relax...I think im more annoyed about being referred to as the overdue girl now 🤣

I thought everything up to 42 weeks was relatively normal!

Ah well!

I’m sure someone would have hear of a secret code in notes stating the sex. Sounds like she’s got use mixed up with someone else.

Do update us! Good luck with the Labour x

Thanks so much hopefully won't be too much longer to wait now...and hopefully the hormones don't drive me and mumsnet too insane until he or she arrives! Thank you x

We didn't find out what we were having either. On one of my scans I asked the sonographer whether they check or note the sex down anywhere and she told me no. A midwife probably wouldn't be an expert on checking baby's sex from the scan pictures either. I hope you get chance to relax and sleep before baby comes x

Dorset555 · 10/02/2021 15:18

Thanks @Bing765 that's helped put my mind at rest..its not that I don't want to have a girl its just the thought of having made it to 40+3 only to have someone tell me what I didn't want to find out was so disappointed!
Just trying to chill now and let the frustration go...ranting on here is helpful isn't it?! God bless mumsnet!

No they definitely don’t. In fact they don’t tend to look in that ‘area’ unless you want to know as it’s not a gender scan. You’ll prob find the sonographer didn’t even know. I bet she’s just got you mixed up with another patient or just guessed tbh.

No, she probably got you confused with someone else. When I was pregnant with dc3 I was shocked by the amount of drs who saw me walk in with ds2 and said "so, 2nd pregnancy then?" when it said "para 4 gravida 2" in big red letters on the front page of my notes.
