Just something to keep me busy while I wait for my second little one to make her appearance...

At what gestation did you go into labour with your second, in comparison to your first?

I’m aware there will be no pattern & everyone has very unique experiences but just out of interest really! Smile

Waters went first for both my pregnancies and dcs born the following day after contractions started naturally. Both dcs were early dc1 3 weeks and dc2 10 days. Both were also quick labours my full establish labour time is just under an hour for both.

micc · 09/02/2021 07:32

My DD1 was born on her due date.. DD2 was a week late! God I was at my wits end. But her labour was much quicker and I bounced back so much quicker. DD1 I had an epidural and was induced. DD2 was just with gas and air. 3 pushes and she was out! I got up and had a shower 20 minutes after I had her. Such a contrast to my first.

Eekay · 09/02/2021 07:34

Exactly the same first and second. 38+5.
Third was 41+3.
Fourth and fifth (yes, I know what causes it now) both 39+4.
Best of luck to everyone currently feeling like they're about to popSmile

PlinkPlink · 09/02/2021 07:34

DS was 38+5 (fortunately, just before a booked induction) with 2 sweeps.

DD was 38+4 all of her own accord.

I was very ready with both of them 🤣🤣

CoodleMoodle · 09/02/2021 07:39

DD was 40+6, very difficult labour, 12hrs+. I had preeclampsia, an episiotomy and ventouse delivery. Not nice but all fine in the end.

DS was 38+5. Started feeling very unwell the night before, got to the hospital at 12:45pm, he was born at 1:05pm. Didn't have time for anything other than gas and air! Tore slightly and had a few placenta issues but otherwise a much easier birth.

Even now, DS doesn't hang around!

Onekidnoclue · 09/02/2021 07:40

40+2 for DS1
40+4 for DS2
Good luck OP. I had a much better labour the second time, hope that’s true for you too.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 09/02/2021 07:42

Dc1 40+5
DC2 38

HastingsSpoon · 09/02/2021 07:45

Both spontaneous:

DC1 - 40+10
DC2 - 40+7

DC3... won’t be long hopefully! Currently 34+3

Opia90 · 09/02/2021 07:47

DC1 - 10days late, 24 hr labour
DC2 - 2days early, 3 hours start to fin!

Fisharefriendstoo · 09/02/2021 07:52

DC1- 40 + 3
DC1- 38+ 4

Both spontaneous and both quick labours.

emvy · 09/02/2021 16:12

Thank you for sharing everyone I’ve been enjoying seeing when all your DC arrived!

I’m now 39+1, the day contractions started with DC1 and no sign of anything at all going on here this time. I mean they were stop/start for 24 hours until he was born at 39+4 so still a few days to go until then but already feeling super impatient.

@Hardbackwriter I feel exactly the same. I’m SO uncomfortable! I’ve been having cramps since 37 weeks but I’ve realised they’re from the fact she’s been engaged since 36 weeks and has just been sat on my pelvis and in my lower back for sooo long, my poor body is struggling, labour is not starting 😩😂

I really hope everyone who is waiting gets their babies super soon!

Good luck @emvy !
Come back and tell us if things get going!
Only 36+1 here but sitting on the birth ball listening to a Hypnobirthing track. I had DD at 38+4 but long slow build up of contractions at home from 38+0.

Hardbackwriter · 11/02/2021 09:51

How are you doing, @emvy? Due today, still no sign so a week past when DS came and so fed up!

emvy · 11/02/2021 10:30

Still waiting as well @Hardbackwriter! It’s so frustrating isn’t it?! Tonight is the night that things really got going with DS so I’m thinking it’s probably one of the least likely days for things to kick off with this one! 39+3 today.

Happy due date! I really get that it doesn’t feel like that. I hope your LO gets a move on today - come on, eviction day!! Have you had any signs at all?

OP posts:
WineInTheWillows · 11/02/2021 10:31

39 and 41 weeks respectively for first and second.

Hardbackwriter · 11/02/2021 10:59

Well, that's the funny thing - I've had loads and loads of 'niggles', Braxton Hicks, occasional cramps that feel like period pain - but none of it ever comes to anything! Whereas with DS I had no sign whatsoever and then my waters just spectacularly broke (just like they tell you in antenatal class only happens in the films!), contractions started about two hours later and then he was born 12 hours later. So when I started getting cramps and braxton hicks - which has been going on for weeks - I was even more sure that this one would be earlier, but no! How about you?

emvy · 11/02/2021 11:50

@Hardbackwriter that is exactly the same here!! I’ve decided that the cramps must be down to just being physically uncomfortable from carrying the weight of the baby around rather than anything to go on so I’m trying to ignore them now. With DS I had very obvious contractions that just randomly started, went to bed and at 4am waters broke (also very dramatically) in the middle of a contraction and then I had him at midday. All very smooth sailing and obvious. This time apparently not so much!

Hardbackwriter · 14/02/2021 20:25

Waters broke a couple of hours ago and now I think contractions have just started! 40+3. How about you, @emvy, anything yet?!

emvy · 14/02/2021 20:48

Omg so exciting @Hardbackwriter!! My waters breaking with my son were a real turning point for me - I’m really sure you’re going to have your baby in your arms by morning!!

I had regular contractions for 3 hours last night but unfortunately they stopped today. I’ve had a couple of low-level ones this evening but nothing to write home about! I’m not particularly hopeful that they’re even the real thing - I’m doubting everything this time round!

Please let me know how you get on!

Spaghettiamaretti · 14/02/2021 22:00

DC1 - spontaneous labour 36 weeks - water broke 9am Saturday morning and baby was born at Half 3 Sunday afternoon (long labour due to him being back to back)
DC2 - induced at 39 weeks - had the pessary at 10pm, pessary fell out at 11.30, despite that I started getting a few twinges around 3.30am.. baby born at 7.40am!
Midwives think I just laboured naturally with DC2 rather than the induction playing a major part since the pessary fell out.
Second labour was much much quicker especially the pushing stage, but with DC1 being back to back it isn’t a fair comparison.

I’m currently pregnant with DC3 and very interested to see how this will go!

Stingebag100 · 14/02/2021 22:37

First baby was born from induction (overdue) at 41+4 after a 12 hour labour and weighed
7:2. Baby 2 was born at 39+1 also from induction (spd) but took 20 hours and 8:5. Imagine if I had let (already chunky) baby 2 get to 41+5!

PeggyHill · 15/02/2021 07:12

I'm due with my second on Friday. Went 11 days over with my first and ended up being induced. So I'm finding it hard to imagine going into labour spontaneously because nothing ever happened with my first until they induced me!

This time I've had a few pains and cramps over the last 48 hours that seemed promising but haven't gone anywhere. Lost a small bit of mucus plug last night but nothing since.

Does anyone have a crystal ball so you can put me out of my misery?

Hardbackwriter · 15/02/2021 10:39

You were right @emvy - DS2 was born just after midnight last night/this morning! Much quicker birth than DS1, and much easier for it, though very intense. Any progress with your contractions?

emvy · 15/02/2021 21:20

@PeggyHill if you find anyone with that crystal ball, send them my way too please!! Any progress?

@Hardbackwriter congratulations!! Wonderful news, I’m so happy for you and really pleased all went smoothly too. Still no further here. I’ve kept on my feet or the ball all day today to see if that makes a difference and had a really restful night’s sleep last night but no more contractions sadly!
