Pregnancy support band for running?

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and run 3 times per week for about 45 minutes. So far had no issues at all but my last run I had some pain in my lower abdomen (pulling/cramping pains) and they continued after my last run. I have barely any bump but would like to continue running as long as possible. My good friend who runs a lot wishes she'd used a support band as she ran up to 8 months and said she think it damaged her recovery not using one. Any recommendations? The Gabrialla one seems to have good reviews but only seems to be in a large on Amazon.

This isn’t what you’ll want to hear, but if it’s hurting then it’s hurting for a reason and your body is telling you that what you’re doing is too much. I’m sure you’re already aware that your ligaments relax when you’re pregnant and this could be what’s causing your discomfort. A support band might mask this issue temporarily but you’d still be at risk of getting injured. I really wouldn’t recommend one for strenuous exercise (quite another thing if a support is needed to help you just go about your daily life)

I say this as a physio (who is also sporty and pregnant!) but honestly I would slow down if I were you

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy SmileFlowers

Just re-read your post, Pulling and cramping aren’t the usual description of ligament pains so I’m not sure that’s what’s going on with you. Maybe try another steady and short run to see if you have the same issue - if you do then my advice above stands. If you’re ok then keeping running but take it steady and look after yourself Smile

I agree fully with Chelsea.

I run a lot. I didn't run during my first pregnancy (I'd had a complicated MMC before this & was too scared to). I did in my second - right up to the end. Different pregnancy, much easier, and I enjoyed it. Third time, I stopped about 7 months in. It was uncomfortable, I struggled with pains of various kinds & my centre of gravity made me worried about falling.

I don't agree that an exercise band is merited. Chelsea is right (and more qualified than me of course as a physio!)

Listen to your body. Every pregnancy & every woman is different. In pregnancy I did much less strenuous exercise. I switched to swimming & loved it, yoga & walking. I don't like these usually, preferring more strenuous exercise.

Don't worry about trying to get around the pain; listen to your body & adapt instead.

Good luck!
