C section scar pain in early pregnancy

Hey all,
I'm 4 weeks pregnant and been having period type cramping, lower back pain and pain in my c section scar (had my first baby 3 years ago via emerg section). The section area has always felt a bit weird, kinda numb, occasionally it's really itchy but when I itch it, it feels a bit like pins and needles (all a bit random!) But anyway, is the pain normal? Ill speak to doctor when I get my appointment, but just wondered if anyone had similar experience?

Also, any positive VBAC stories? I feel I'm destined to have another section seems as my tummy muscles are pretty shot 😿

Hi,

I’ve had 3 c sections, but my youngest is 6 years old now.

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and can’t say I’ve experienced any pain in my scar yet, but I have always had the numbness and that odd sensation when you have an itch and it never really feels like your relieving it when you itch it!

If you’re concerned about the pain it could be worth mentioning to your midwife, but I would imagine it’s fairly normal for it to feel a bit sore as things start to stretch.

You can certainly opt for a Vbac if you want one. My first section was emergency but then I opted for my second and third to be elective sections.

Good luck.

Some mild pain is normal at that early stage so long as you don't have any bleeding. It should settle down.
I get pain in my cesarean scar at totm and after heavy deadlift days. Mine is also a bit numb around the area of my scar on the skin, that's just nerve damage. I have a similar numbness and pins and needles sensation on a large scar on my foot from surgery so that doesn't sound unusual.
I did get spotting and pain in my cesarean scar at the start of a mc in July at 9wk.

My stomach was in bits after my last. I had twins with a combined birth weight of 17lb so was left with diastasis recti (ab separation). Lived with constant back pain and other joint pain (I'm blessed with osteoarthritis too) for over 2 years before starting to do weightlifting. Fixed the problems with years of dedicated work. Of course pregnancy is not the time to be starting heavy lifting but you could invest in some light resistance bands to build up a bit of core strength before baby starts to stretch it all out again.

I had my 1st cesarean last time so this would be my chance at vbac. I think I may opt for elective cesarean though as I'm looking at sterilisation at the same time. We already have 5 before this one or maybe two, find out whats in there in 10 days.

I had a EMCS 5 years ago and also experienced this weird pain/sensation during the early stages of this pregnancy. It felt like pins and needles all around my scar. I asked my midwife and she said it was nothing to worry about.
I'm now 20 weeks and the feeling doesn't happen anymore at all.

I don't have a positive vbac stories as I will be booked in for an ELCS this time.

Thanks for your replies, it's reassuring to know that the pain seems fairly normal! I will mention it at my doctors appointment, and I've had no bleeding or spotting, so hopefully things are all happening as they should be!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancies x x x
