I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I can't do anything at the moment as no one else knows I am pregnant I have children who will know if they hear me on phone so I can't ring any where until they are in school tomorrow. I don't have the number but I will Google it I didn't know if maternity would be interested as I'm so early on. I've just spent 20mins crying in the shower so no one knows I'm heartbroken.

Anxious9thPG · 19/03/2021 15:07

@Ttc2017 so sorry to hear what you've been going through. I've had several miscarriages myself, and have gone to my local early pregnancy unit if I was over 6 weeks. They can then advise if the miscarriage is definite. Fingers crossed for you xx

Braxos · 19/03/2021 18:07

Hey ladies, im still here reading & silently supporting everyone. I have had a real bad couple of days. Despite being on 2 types of meds, just vomitting so so much. I think im on number 18 today, its insane. Can tell im dehydrated (skin pinches not receeding & dark urine), but have both kids home & OH working away so just having to suffer through. Trying to have lollies, ice & as much fluid as i can manage between bouts to make sure i dont get poorly. OH home tomorrow and if this continues i think a trip to the hospital may be on the cards. Its utterly miserable. This baby is so wanted and so loved already, but it does just make you feel like you dont want to do it any longer. I keep thinking ive ruined my boys lives because im just a horrible inpatient shouty pukey mummy at the moment, and they are both really sad, but theres literally nothing i can do. Im thankful they are at least back in school so at least im getting the 9-3 restbite, but jesus its so tough.

Anyat212 · 19/03/2021 18:23

@Ttc2017 I'm so sorry to read your updates - thinking of you. How did you get on today? I've also got my fingers crossed for you.

@Braxos
Sorry you are having a hard time, it does sound like some fluids would do a world of good. Perhaps the doctors there could review your meds as you may need something stronger? At my worst, I was on three different meds and that was effective for me. Please don't feel guilty towards your other children, I know it's so easy to say (I done it with DD!) but you are doing amazing! It does pass and you won't feel like this all the time. Have you tried drinking from a straw? That helped me keep fluids down as well. Hope you feel better soon

Sorry I've been so quiet on this thread, my c section date is Monday! So I've been trying to get everything organised as much as possible. No sign of pre eclampsia cropping back up in this pregnancy (so far) which is great too. I've had some brutal vomits though, I'm sure it's the HG saying it's sadistic goodbyes!! Hope everyone is coping and you are well Lucinda!

LucindaE · 19/03/2021 22:01

Ttc2017 So sorry I missed your post last night and to hear your news. How did things go at hospital?
Braxos I so agree with Anya's great advice. From all I have heard on this thread, your LO's will soon forget this period when Mummy was cross through being ill. I am sure you have told them why you are cross, and that you don't mean it and it won't last. Please don't torture yourself. Children are resiliant.
Anyat212 Wishing you all luck. Wonderful you will soon be welcoming baby. How will we manage without you on this thread? Flowers
Star
Anxious9thPG Great advice. How are things?
Apologies for anyone rudely ignored.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give a quick update as this forum helped me so much in the early stages of pregnancy and sickness. I have to say I did try everything recommended and yet by week 15 the symptoms were as bad as ever. I spent the best part of 11 weeks in bed, it's been an awful year. I was then diagnosed with perinatal depression and anxiety on top of that.

Last week if felt so desperate that I decided to try accupuncture even though I am completely cynical to the idea of alternative therapy. I had it Tuesday afternoon and felt worse than even that night. Wednesday and Thursday no difference. Then Friday I woke up and felt like myself for the first time since December. It was miraculous. I felt good all day until the evening when I started feeling a little queasy and today is the same so far. I have no idea if it it the accupuncture or just timing, but I have never felt such a difference so quickly in any of my other pregnancies as I came out of this horrible phase. The accupuncture was also supposed to help my mental health too and I am genuinely feeling so much happier since yesterday. I will keep tabs on how this progresses and let you know if there is continued correlation between the treatments and my wellbeing. I wish I had tired it sooner now.

RockinRobinn · 20/03/2021 13:56

@SkittlesRainbow I found acupuncture helped me a couple of times in my first pregnancy but the effects were so short lived that I just couldn't afford to keep it up. Glad you've had some reprieve.
@Ttc2017 so sorry to hear about the bleeding I hope all is well and the early pregnancy unit have seen you. In my last pregnancy I had an early scan at 6 weeks because I had spotting for a week and then quite fresh blood, all was ok in the end so 🤞
@Anyat212 good luck for Monday!! How exciting that the end is so close now.
@Breezybreezy I definitely found with my first that I was worse weeks 11-13 because everything built up and I was just doing too much. It did get better again after that though.
A little update I have said to work I won't be back until 7th April I'm getting more strength and stamina now I am 13+1 but I think the PPE on top of the demands of the job will be too much before that. I have to wear PPE as I'm an osteopath so don't have an option. I'll be nearly 16 weeks by then so praying that I'll be feeling a lot better. This has been a long slog I can't believe it's been so bad this time.
Wave to everyone else - I hope you are all coping ok ❤️ due date is 24th September and I'm sure it will be here before I know it.

Ttc2017 · 20/03/2021 15:43

Thanks I have to wait til next week epu will call me and make a appointment for me to scan me I think I've lost it as had jelly lumps in it and also brown blood with bits yesterday

SkittlesRainbow · 20/03/2021 17:45

@RockinRobinn thanks for your input, I couldn't keep doing it for very long at £45 a week. This week or felt like a low price to pay for a couple of days off feeling like death after 11 weeks, but I can see it mounting up as the weeks go on. I hear everyone reacts differently so hope it lasts more than a few days for me! X

LucindaE · 20/03/2021 19:26

Ttc2017 It is very nerve wracking having to wait until next week. I wonder they won't do a scan earlier. Keeping fingers crossed for you.
SkittlesRainbow and RockinRobinn I am so glad that Acupuncture has helped SkittlesRainbow dramatically; it did help me a lot as well, but I am wary of recommending it because I have found that it only seemed to help a few as much as it did me. I don't know if it depends on the accuracy of the practitioner or some other factor. It is of course, horribly expensive. Oddly, later I tried it for my migraines when they were ast their worst and it didn't help at all, but the practitioner I had had left the area.
I am tidying up the Pink Castle in readiness for Anyat212. Smile

Thank you for the reassuring messages, I will of course post an update when I'm feeling up to it.

I honestly can't thank you enough Lucinda, I know I've said it before but these threads have been such a huge help. All you lovely ladies as well, it's so helpful speaking to people who understand. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise.

I hope you are all coping today x

composed · 21/03/2021 19:41

Just wanted to quickly pop on and wish @Anyat212 all the best for tomorrow. Hopefully this time tomorrow you will be comfortably relaxing in the pink castle with lots of goodies and the dreaded hg will start to become a distant memory x

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

Anyat212 · 21/03/2021 20:22

Thank you @composed I really appreciate that Smile I'm nervous if I'm honest but just keep thinking about holding baby and reaching that castle for the very last time!

I'll certainly be cheering you on. I hope you are doing okay! X

Anxious9thPG · 22/03/2021 16:45

@Anyat212 All the best, hope today went well and you feel on top of the world!

@LucindaE thanks for checking in. I have slightly turned a corner, at 14 weeks, managed a half day at work (from home). Still have constant nausea but can definitely keep food down now so much better.

@SkittlesRainbow I had weekly Acupuncture pre conception and up to about 7 weeks, and it help with my nausea initially. I only stopped going after my first admission when I couldn't literally get there any more. Would be interesting to know if it helps later on too.

@Ttc2017 thinking of you, hope all ok.

@RockinRobinn Our due dates are similar, I'm 17th Sept!

@Braxos sorry you're having such a tough time. Totally get you with childcare. My boy is nearly 3 and after a weekend on my own with him, I felt almost back to square one again!

RockinRobinn · 22/03/2021 18:12

@Anyat212 I hope all went well today and you now are in the pink castle with your beautiful baby!

@Anxious9thPG my first daughter was due the 18th September, came on the 6th. Needless to say we didn't think we would fall first time trying and here we are with very close due dates! So glad you've turned a corner at 14 weeks I'm starting to feel more normal now I'm 13 weeks too gradually getting there. Just need to make sure I don't over do it otherwise the next day is downhill.
Hope everyone else is managing today and hopefully having a fluffy day

LucindaE · 22/03/2021 20:07

RockinRobinn composed and everyone, I hope Anyat212 is indeed in the fabled Pink Castle by now. I am so glad that this thread helped her and others.
Good news about Anxious9t6hpPG having turned a corner. Waves to

Thank you for the supporting messages 💞 I just wanted to pop on to say, I had a lovely elective c section this morning. DD2 was born weighing 8lbs exactly! It still blows my mind how they take everything from you, no matter how badly you feel. No issues so far and I'm on track to be discharged tomorrow.

I'm so happy to reach that lovely pink castle for the final time. There is no way I'd go for a third baby so admire all you ladies who have. The HG disappeared immediately. I felt so sick going in, I thought it would be repeat of last time and projectile vomiting everywhere. I actually came out feeling better in a long time!

Hope everyone is coping today x

vixey · 22/03/2021 21:01

no coping here!
pregnancy just isn't agreeing with me. I'm throwing up every morning when I brush my teeth and I have absolutely no energy all day and as much as every day I have cravings and feel hungry, as soon as I eat I feel awful. I rung my drs and they said its totally normal and just keep plodding on and it'll ease in a few weeks. not much help really. my mum and nana have given me loads of tips, most of which aren't recommend during early pregnancy. it all just sucks. I feel so rubbish. and I feel really ungrateful because so many people want to be pregnant and it hasn't happened yet, and here I am complaining about it :( xxxxxxx

snapple21 · 22/03/2021 21:02

@Anyat212 congratulations. Gives me hope. 30 weeks here now and having a bad day! Enjoy your new arrival. I too will not be doing this for a third time!

bunhead34 · 22/03/2021 22:17

@Anyat212 congratulations!!

Ttc2017 · 22/03/2021 22:48

Anya congrats on your baby !
I had scan at epu after weekend from hell preparing for the worst and couldn't believe it baby was ok still there heart beating away and even measuring a few days ahead. I am so relieved but also still a bit worried as they don't know what caused the bleed so it could come back. Lots of lovely nausea today. What doseof omeprazole are you all on my doc prescribe 20mg tablets butin leaflet it says take 10mg so I'm unsure weather to take them

nsg90 · 23/03/2021 11:04

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and currently hating every second of my first pregnancy. Without wanting to sound ungrateful, as I know how lucky I am to be pregnant, I absolutely did not anticipate how hard this would be.

I've had severe all-day nausea from 4 weeks, which escalated to vomiting in the mornings by 5 weeks. I'm now 6+7 and for the past 6 days I've been vomiting upwards of 5x per day, from morning until night. The nausea doesn't let up AT ALL and is constant from the moment I wake up until I go to bed.

It's really starting to get to me. Yesterday, I threw up everything including all fluids, and was starting to feel really dehydrated so I called my GP. He prescribed cyclizine which I started taking last night. It seems to have stopped the vomiting, but if anything the nausea is worse because it constantly feels like I'm going to be sick.

I've tried everything I've found online and all the tips from my midwife. I'm struggling to work (although THANK GOD I'm able to work from home at the moment.

I don't know if this is HG but I just feel like I absolutely can't do another 7.5 months of this Sad
