Early labour - should I try and rest tonight?

FTM here, 40+ weeks. Been niggling for a few days and been having regular mild contractions since 2pm today. Been staying fairly active e.g. pottering around house, small walks, ball bouncing. Pretty sure I'm in early labour and aware it can be stop / start but my contractions are still coming. Definitely not active labour yet.

My question is whether I should try and rest / sleep at all tonight? I know staying upright & active is better for keeping things moving. Not sure I'd be able to lie down anyway but just wondered what other people would do?

If FTM means first time mum. Get yourself to bed and try and sleep.

What @TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams said. Have something to eat then off to bed. Good luck 😀

Oh seriously, if you can sleep please do! Even if things slow down or stop overnight they’ll get going again in due course and being rested is 100% the most important thing going into labour. My early contractions started at 9pm on Friday night and they didn’t let me sleep. By the time active labour got going it was 3am on Monday morning and I’d had 4 hours sleep in 20 min bursts all weekend. It was a hard labour and I’m certain it would have gone a bit more smoothly if I wasn’t already exhausted from the start. Very exciting though! Now ignore the excitement and get thee to bed Grin

I'm in a similar boat.

Pretty sure things are starting up, it's been on and off for days but I lost my mucus plug today and have constant gas/period pains. Only getting contraction like pains if I'm on my feet too much.

It's a bit like limbo land.

Sleep! if you can. Honestly sleep!

physicskate · 25/01/2021 21:34

I made the mistake of not resting. And then it got where I couldn't rest because I was in too much pain. It took four days of contractions, augmented labour etc... for me. So rest while you can!!!!!!

Put the phone down and snuggle up in bed. Definitely try and sleep!! Good luck OP!!

olderthanyouthink · 25/01/2021 21:39

OMG sleep and eat! You might not have long left to do this without someone crying!!!

polkadotpjs · 25/01/2021 21:40

Yes yes. I had this. Took 2 paracetamol and managed a couple of hours extra
Please rest and good luck and all the best

Skyla01 · 25/01/2021 21:43

Ok, pretty unanimous advice! I've managed the eating, will try the sleeping. Thanks.
