37 weeks and...could this be my waters?

Okay so just in from walk, only a mile and at toddler pace, but once I got home I went to the loo and on wiping I have lost about liner length of really thick mucus and I had loads of cramps when I walked too quick.

Plus one instance on the walk I suddenly felt soaking wet - like the liner couldn't absorb it quick enough. My liner was pretty damp but not soaking like it felt when it happened, however whatever its been has happened in a gush as my pants surrounding the liner are wet too.

Could my waters be starting to go? Never had it happen naturally before..

Hey OP that's exactly how mine started and I wasn't sure and then few hours later they popped! Is baby moving ok? I would put a fresh pad on and see if it soaks up. Ild also ring maternity triage to give them a heads up , c

Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2021 17:36

Mine went at 37wks with both of mine, and neither were very much water but did go a pop.
I'd second calling maternity to let them know.

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 17:38

Yeh baby is moving absolutely fine after a lazy morning. I have a pad on again but they are quite heavy duty ones as my discharge has been crazy in this pregnancy so I wonder if it's soaking up more than I am realising.

@Chasingsquirrels @tobeornottobe1 did you lose your mucus plug at the same time?

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2021 18:57

Honestly - youngest is 15 in a few days and rest can't remember a mucus plug with either of them.
Did you call the maternity unit?

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 18:59

No. Not had any more come away. I believe waters continue to leak? Plus I couldn't go in right now anyway. I will call if I get more leaks or when DP gets home - whatever happens first.

(I'm home alone with DC right now)

Mine just popped, small amount then no more. But I laboured very quickly after that, so didn't think anything more of it.
Good luck!

lemorella · 25/01/2021 19:10

OP I would call the maternity unit/ your midwife as I think they like to see you within 12 hours of waters breaking (if it is waters).

TerribleCustomerCervix · 25/01/2021 19:17

Call the MW and see if they want you to pop in.

When mine went with DS I thought I’d pissed myself- it was only the stop/start nature of it and me not being able to control the flow that made me realise that, whomp whomp, this was it 😂

Oneandabean · 25/01/2021 19:18

If it is waters it’s really important you get checked as the risk of infection increases and can be really nasty. I got an infection with my first from being left too long. Better to go in and check then to leave it

tobeornottobe1 · 25/01/2021 19:27

@OnNaturesCourse I was losing my plug for days before waters popped anyway. Be sure to remember the time when you think your waters started leaking as you will need to tell maternity triage this. It depends on your hospitals policy on How long they leave you for before inducing you once waters are broken. Majority is 24 hours. X

tobeornottobe1 · 25/01/2021 19:28

Also they may admit you to observe if you don't naturally go into labour and ur waters have broke, as your 37 weeks. Are you nearly 38?

MrFlibblesEyes · 25/01/2021 19:31

I woke up at 6am at 40+4 and as I sat up there was the smallest of trickles which I thought was my waters going. I rang the midwives but they said that as there was no more leaking it was unlikely to be my waters. My contractions started at lunchtime and by the time I finally convinced them to let me come in it was 11pm although they insisted it couldn't have been my waters because I wasn't wetting any pads. When they examined me- you guessed it- my waters were completely gone (god knows where?) and by the time the baby was born at midday the next day I had developed an infection and needed a 3 day stay in hospital! If you think there is any chance it was your waters I would ring in, just incase!

peach1234 · 25/01/2021 19:49

Definitely go get it checked they can do a really quick test to check if it's your waters.
I thought mine had gone, woke up in the night to a gush and splash on the floor, went to hospital only to be told it was watery discharge 😳 lol good luck!

Lillygolightly · 25/01/2021 20:08

Yes mine went just as you described, they then went properly with a big gush a few hours later just as I arrived at hospital.

I went into get checked after the initial waters going and they kept me in for about an hour on the trace, they could see I was contracting but was early stages of labour so sent me home for some rest. Two or so hours after getting home my contractions had really ramped up so I headed back to hospital waters went with a big gush as I was waiting to be transferred to the birthing suite and baby was born less than 90 minutes later. I was 40+5 and it was my second pregnancy/birth.

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 20:13

Unfortunately can't go in until later - I have DP on route home as fast as possible.

Short of taking DC into the hospital with me there's not much else I can do.

I've not had anything else at all. All completely and utterly dry.

I had it with my first DD it was a small trickle of water when I stood up after going for a wee. My waters then didn’t fully go until I was in labour with her after being induced because of the waters. Always best to get checked. Hope all goes ok 😊

Merrz · 26/01/2021 10:13

Any developments today op? I just wanted to say similar happened to me, got out of bed one morning and there was a trickle down my leg (38 weeks so thought I'd probably peed' myself) put a pad on and in a few hours it was a bit damp but not soaked, phoned midwife and they asked me to come in, did a swab to see if was my waters or not, it was and they said once anything can get out infection can get in so baby will need to be born within 4 days. I was induced 2 days later, turns out when they induced me it was my "back waters" that had been leaking and they broke my actual waters

OnNaturesCourse · 26/01/2021 12:01

Still super dry down there, which is unusual for me this pregnancy.

I read that your waters have a PH level of 8+ and I have PH sticks at home so I tested it last night but it was only level 5. So that put my mind at rest a little.

Plan on going a walk again today to see if anything else moves. Have done my yoga and work out this morning and aside from feeling a bit exhausted quicker I feel fine...and dry.

OP posts:
MotherPiglet · 26/01/2021 12:33

Did you ring the hospital to say you think your waters leaked but at ok now? If you suspect it was waters you really should be speaking to them as they dont like to leave ir over 48 hours due to infection which can be harmful to the baby.

OnNaturesCourse · 26/01/2021 13:25

No, because I don't think it is my water now as I'm not leaking and there would definitely be more to come away considering the volume that came away. Think it might have been the overflow from the plug. Plus I was sound asleep by the time DP got home last night stupidly.

OP posts:
MotherPiglet · 26/01/2021 15:18

Can you not ring now to check? Theres no way of knowing without you being checked.

OnNaturesCourse · 26/01/2021 17:12

I can't go in to get checked anyway.

DC isn't allowed on maternity unit. Been told that before.

OP posts:
OnNaturesCourse · 27/01/2021 21:27

So I went to get checked today. Waters still okay but I'm completely thinned out and 1cm dilated. Got sent home to labour here until contractions are closer together and stronger, and/or waters break.

sodabreadjam · 28/01/2021 18:19

Exciting! Good luck, OP - I hope things go smoothly for you.
