My gp advised weaning off before ttc

I'm on 30mg and planning to talk to my Dr soon before starting TTC.

I did find reading about studies that have been done on the 'best use of medicine in pregnancy' website to be useful. I'd recommend having a look.

@chickychicchic if you don't mind me asking, how long have you been on citaloprom?

I have taken citalapram in both my pregnancies. I did stop at the beginning of both but found my anxiety sky rocketed (probably due to hormones) and I was an absolute wreck. I spoke to the doctor who advised there was very little evidence to suggest such a small dose (20mg) Would have a detrimental effect on the baby and that it was more important to look after my own mental health. I've continued to take it whilst breastfeeding both of my girls and neither have any issues whatsoever. I believe the risk is that there is an extremely small chance of heart defect in babies but there isn't enough evidence to support.

my sister continued to take hers throughout both her pregnancies. the midwife said her babies may need extra monitoring when they were born but both were perfectly healthy and out of hospital within a day, with no extra monitoring even mentioned.

Hi,I was on Citalopram although I did reduce the dose from 40mg to 20mg and it was OK,my girl is fine.
I didn't want to take it in my previous pregnancy and it was horrendous.
I think it was main reason why I developed pre eclampsia and was induced,I was just really anxious and panicky.

I had 10mg prescribed for PND which I stopped after a while. When I was pregnant with my second, I developed antenatal depression and the doctor didn't hesitate to put me back on it. No problems whatsoever, although I know 10mg is a low dose.

I took citalopram before getting pregnant. I did wean myself when I was trying and now I don't take it. I did have an appointment with the midwife today who said that it is safe to take when pregnant.

I'm not citalopram but I take mirtazapine and quetiapine. We sought pre-conception advice and was told to wean off if possible but there was a very small risk to baby. I did manage to reduce right down but unfortunately had a nasty breakdown due to infertility and had to go back up. Fell pregnant unexpectedly before IVF (5+6 weeks). I'm now trying to wean down slowly. I was told with antidepressants there can be a very small risk to baby's heart and they can get withdrawal symptoms when they're born. It's a balance though I was told happy mum is a happy baby. There's limited research as they can't test during pregnancy so doctors won't give you a definitive answer

Thanks ladies

I take 20mg probably have for about 2 years maybe i tried coming off in the summer because I had a few days I forgot to take it but I became pretty irritable. I take it mostly because I get bad PMT it just helps stabilise my emotions and helps me keep an even keel. I want to enjoy pregnancy so will have a think about it and discuss with GP.
