Baby movements - 21 weeks

I'm 21+2 and I've just had a telephone appointment with the midwife and she was a little concerned that I've not been feelings lots of movement with the baby yet.

I did tell her that I feel what seems like little popping in my stomach every now and then but I can't be certain that it's the baby. She seems to think I should be feeling something a little more obvious by now.

Do you think the little pops could be baby? It's making me worry that I should be feeling more by now.

Do you think the pops could be the baby and did anyone else experience later movements?

Just to add it's my first pregnancy and baby was moving plenty at my 20 week scan last week.

Do you know what kind of placenta you have? I've always had anterior and it's a pretty much impossible at times until I'm 25+ (even then I have to take a moment every day to make sure I've definitely felt something).

If you have an anterior placenta it is very normal not to feel the movements as early. I was 23w with my first before I felt anything. It will normally be on one of your scan reports ? Either anterior or posterior

I agree with the placenta comments, definitely check what type you have on your scan report, your sonographer should have written it down on there and possibly told you.
My midwife advised me not to worry too much about movements until 28 weeks as they will be very subtle and not a cause of concern yet. It took me several weeks from about 18 weeks to realise the bubbling type movements was the baby and they weren't daily until around 20 weeks, but even then they can be subtle most the time. Those pops are almost definitely the baby, it's a bit of a weird experience at first and it should be around your lower abdomen. You are feeling something so wouldn't worry too much and 21 weeks is still quite early for tracking movements but keep an eye on it and see if it gets more obvious and frequent in the next few weeks xx

Hi all,

Sorry I should have said from the start that I have a posterior placenta, but thank you for the reassurance.

I've heard drinking fizzy drinks can get the baby wriggling so I will give that a go!

I'm 22+2 with a posterior placenta. First baby, I was feeling an occasional pop during the week but not regular until the past few days when I know it's movement and have felt the baby kick my hand! I heard it's normal with 1st babies to feel movement anytime from 18 to 24 weeks so don't worry too much x

I am 17 weeks and it’s also my first and have felt nothing. I know it’s still early but done I have heard have already felt the baby. The odd bubbles only felt with my hand in the evening after dinner I think that’s my stomach more than anything as I feel it lose right side of my belly button but really like 3 times max in the last couple of days. I checked my 12 w scan notes and it mentioned anterior placenta but I remember being told it can still change its location by week 20. It’s such a worrying time between the scans. The bubbles you feel are hand felt or you experience them?
