Continuous dark brown spotting interspersed with fresh red/pink bleeds?

Hello All! This is my first post after obsessing over lots of other threads on here, just looking to hear if anybody else has been through similar and come out smiling! Just to warn, some may find this TMI...

I bled dark brown blood every single time I wiped in week 5 of pregnancy. Then it stopped, and throughout most of week 6 all was fine. I'm now week 7 and the last couple of days I've had 2 fresh red/pink bleeds lasting seconds, and the brown blood has come back. Spoke to the EPU during week 5 and they told me to just wait as they can't see me at the moment (Covid). I'm going out of my mind, pregnancy tests are coming back positve (3 weeks + on the clearlblue ones i have, which is the highest they go up to). I don't have any kids, and I had a miscarriage a few months back which started with brown blood but progressed faster than this. This seems different. Does anyone have any similar experiences? Thank you! x

Hi OP, this sounds similar to my experience. Between week 3.5 and week 6 I had on and off bleeding (the first bleed was the reason I tested as thought it was AF coming early despite being on med after a FET). They would all start as a small red bleed, fairly light but definitely more than spotting, which would last an hour or two, if that. Then would turn to very dark red blood and then to brown spotting which would last about 24 hours. I'd have nothing for a day or two then it would happen again, just the same.
During this time my tests got progressively darker but the whole thing was very stressful. I had a viability scan at 6+2 which confirmed a heartbeat was present and also found a small haematoma above the GS which was the cause of the problems. They told me it would probably just reabsorb and sort itself out, and coincidentally that day was the last spotting I had. I'm 15.5 weeks now and it's never returned 🤞
I hope this puts your mind at rest that it's not necessarily a serious problem. Good luck xxx

@SamoyedFan123 Thank you so much for your reply, it's awful when it stops and starts isn't it as you don't know where you stand. But I am so pleased to hear that it stopped and you are doing well now! :)

I said to my OH, if it is a miscarriage I just want to to kick in now rather than trickle over for weeks, then I could start to deal with it emotionally. But it feels like a total rollercoaster of emotions after it stopped for a while as I thought everything was fine (of course it still could be as you say, fingers crossed!) Roll on the midwife appointment, at least they will get me in for some bloods to be taken and that might explain some things... Thank you so much. x

@starshinecat yes it's a total rollercoaster of emotions as you say. Every time the bleeding stops you try to calm down and just start to feel better about it then it starts again. I was convinced I was miscarrying, and like you just wanted it over with. If I were you I would book a private scan - around 7 weeks should give you a definitive answer as to whether that's a heartbeat or if a miscarriage is happening - either way knowing is definitely better, abs hopefully you'll get a positive result and it will set your mind at rest a little. I really hope that's its a good outcome for you xxx

@SamoyedFan123 I've just booked a private scan!! Thank you, I thought they'd be closed at the moment with Covid but saw your message and looked and I've got one for tomorrow! Totally fearing the worst but at least we'll have some peace of mind. xx

Hi,

Im sorry to hear you’re dealing with this stress, I’m experiencing this at the moment as well and it’s not a nice feeling at all! Stars with red blood then turns to brown! Can’t stop worrying. I’m week 7 so have managed to get a scan with the EPU tomorrow so cross fingers! Hope you get to find out soon x

SamoyedFan123 · 20/01/2021 19:06

Good luck ladies. I'll have my fingers crossed for you tomorrow. Please update me on how it goes xxx

Crazylemon86 · 20/01/2021 19:14

Hi, just thought I would give you a positive about this. I am currently 7+5 on Saturday I started bleeding. I booked a private scan (I had a late miscarriage with twins last year so my anxiety is through the roof so private is fortunately an option) they found baby was fine but I have a small hematoma causing the bleed. I had another scan today which showed baby has grown and is measuring correctly and the hematoma has almost gone. The brown spotting I have had since Saturday had been the hematoma healing Smile

StarshineCat · 20/01/2021 19:33

@Firstimehere oh my god, sounds like we're in the same boat!! My EPU won't see me (must be different for different regions at the mo) so I'm getting a private scan tomorrow. Praying it all goes ok for you. x

@Crazylemon86 wow, that's brilliant news!! That makes sense about the brown blood too. Soooo hoping that's the case for me too. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'll be back on here tomorrow to update after my scan. x

@StarshineCat yes definitely in the same boat! I’ve seen a lot of people say their EPU wouldn’t see them so I was pretty shocked when I managed to get an appointment. Good luck for your scan tomorrow 🤞

StarshineCat · 21/01/2021 14:30

Hello ladies, just to update you. Just got back from my scan and I cannot believe it but everything is absolutley fine. There was a little heartbeat flashing away. I'm over the moon! Thinking of you @Firstimehere and so hope everything is ok. xx

Rockettrain · 21/01/2021 14:35

Hi OP just saw your thread, really pleased that all is ok! I had bleeding on and off for the first 8 weeks of my current pregnancy and now I'm 24 weeks. I think it's pretty common. Congratulations!

SamoyedFan123 · 21/01/2021 14:36

That's lovely news @StarshineCat, thanks for updating 😊 I bet you're feeling over the moon now!

StarshineCat · 21/01/2021 14:57

Thank you so much @Rockettrain and @SamoyedFan123 I am absolutley thrilled! We both cried with joy. We were utterly convinced it would be bad news. She said some women just bleed- couldnt see any reason for it. So so happy xx

@StarshineCat congratulations!! So pleased for you and glad baby is all ok. We must be due around a similar time! So exciting xx

Firstimehere · 21/01/2021 15:42

@StarshineCat I’m so glad everything went well for you! :) I also had good news and saw a heartbeat!!! :) turns out I’m more like 6 weeks rather than 7! Feeling so relieved! X

StarshineCat · 21/01/2021 15:53

@Crazylemon86 Thank you so much! Yes we are all similar times, soon it'll be time for us all to go through the 2nd milestone of the 12 week scan! It's definatley all nerve wracking this first trimest business eh?! :D xx

StarshineCat · 21/01/2021 15:54

@Firstimehere oh wow, amazing news!! Congratulations, so pleased to hear this. Weirdly the exact same happened with us today- we thought we were 7 weeks but she said we are measuring more like 6 weeks. But all good! xx

Hi ladies, I hope you're all doing well. I just wanted to give you an update, unfortuantley I went to the EPU this morning as I had started to lose red blood over the last few days, and they found that the foetus is measuring the same as it had on my private scan, however there is no heartbeat now. Absolutley devastated to be having my second miscarriage within a few months. Wishing you all the very best with your pregnancies. xx
