Buying for a summer baby - clothing help!

Okay so had our 20 week scan today and found out we are having a boy 🥰 Due at the start of June and now I feel like I can start buying things!

For a summer born newborn, will they actually wear and sleep in sleepsuits or do you need more short sleeved things/just bodysuits?

Never thought it would be this confusing, there are bodysuits, ones with long arms, sleep suits, and rompers which are like short sleeved short legged sleep suits?! 🤯

What do I actually need? Obviously I know we live in England and it’ll probably rain all summer but don’t want to buy a load of stuff baby won’t wear. Thanks :D

It's so hard to predict. DS1 was born in a huge heatwave in July 2018 and was pretty much just in a nappy in the day for loads of the time, and just a long-sleeved vest at night. I'd forgotten that he barely wore clothes until I was sorting out his clothes before DS2 arrived and realised that the newborn and 0-1 month stuff was mostly unworn! But other years it might be 15 degrees and raining in July. In general I'd say try and buy the bare minimum of new baby clothes before they arrive - assuming you have a partner then every supermarket sells packets of vests and sleepsuits so they can really easily pop out and get what you need. You also don't know what sizes you'll need and in what proportion - DS2 was born too big for newborn and was only in 0-1 months for about three weeks, so all that stuff I bought for DS1 still never got worn!

One more layer than you generally. My first born was a December baby and this next baby due end of June/July

My DS spent the first six weeks living in sleepsuits with a vest under. If cold, add a little cardi/jacket

In summer id roughly use the same principal so if you were in shorts and t-shirt, baby would he in shorts, t-shirt and vest.

Hands and feet always feel cooler than rest of body so that's fine. Use chest or back of neck to check temperature.

Cold babies cry, hot babies die. Stark but true.

Forgot i made this thread haha. We've got the basics now, a few vests, sleepsuits and rompers in small sizes and will wait to see what the weather does!

My daughter wore sleeveless vests with short rompers over the top in the day when it was warm. She also had long rompers for cooler days (with socks kept on with sock-ons). Plus some jumpers and cardigans. This time I've got some little shorts to go over short-sleeved vests. At night she was often just in a vest as our bedroom gets very hot. So we didn't use many sleep suits over the Summer. I'm also thinking we might get an AC unit this time but no doubt it will be a cooler Summer.
