Sudden change of movement

Hey guys, posting on behalf of my wife. 26 weeks Friday she is and we have been feeling regular movement the last 4 weeks or so. Good strong kicks and responding to music, juice, cold water etc etc, and kicking my hands occasionally, the usual, but yesterday we noticed a slight different pattern from before. The kicks were more coming from inside, almost like a wave, rather than the kicking nearer to the skin of the belly. We kind of had an incline he probably moved with his back to my wife’s belly. Anyway, we felt we had to call the midwife, as this was still a different movement to what we were used to. They responded swiftly and eventually we popped down to the hospital and the nurse checked his heartbeat which was a perfect 148BPM. Was nice to get that reassurance. Anyway, I guess my question is, how comes you get days like this where the baby rarely makes an appearance? I know we are still early to be getting some sort of pattern, but does the baby move ? Which affects the kicking pattern? It’s our 1st baby, so obviously still a bit new to all of this.

Hi OP , i experienced something similar to this around the same time as your OH

Some days my baby would not stop moving , some days I had to provoke him to move

I'm 36 weeks & I would say mine isn't even in a pattern
Some days he wakes me up kicking , some days it's only when I've been busy with housework he'll reward me with a hour of non stop moving , mostly it's at night when I'm relaxed that he'll move
It's always sporadic - either kicks or moving.
Sometimes it looks like a Mexican wave is happening in my stomach

I went to hospital a few weeks ago as I had increased movements - as if he was trying to burst out of me. I felt silly but was told by the MW they'd rather be hounded with phone calls every day about movement & check the baby rather than mother & baby sitting in silence.

Always ring your MW if you're worried

Thank you. Yeh exactly, we both said we should call and glad we did because it gave us the reassurance. Happy to see someone in same boat :)

I'm 29 weeks and have had the same thing. It's got easier in the last week or so because I can feel more of the movements - even if they feel different they're still there. I definitely sometimes get kicks (or punches) and sometimes feel more like he's rolling about or moving more slowly. Before about 27 weeks I don't think I was feeling all the rolls and slower movements depending on his position and would have 3 days with 50+ movements an hour and then a day with 2 movements an hour which was pretty disconcerting! I went in for monitoring a couple of times and everything was OK.

The way I look at it no-one knows if it's fine without checking because the symptoms of a problem are the same as the symptoms of a non-problem so even while it's almost certainly OK you have to get checked!

That’s exactly it. We just felt skin kicks the last 4 weeks if that makes sense ? Yesterday wasn’t as much, so felt the need to call. All good though :) thank you

If you feel something isn't right or different then call the triage. I never felt like my baby had a pattern as such and was told by midwives that some babies just don't have a pattern!
