No period after taking morning after pill

Hi

Can anyone help??

I came off the pill at the end of my withdrawal bleed on 22nd November. I had unprotected sex on 23rd November and took Ella the next day. I had a light period on 18th December which was my first natural period. No affects from taking Ella.

I then had unprotected sex again on 30 December, not sure if I was ovulating or not. I took Ella around 18 hours afterwards.

It's now 21 days since I took Ella and no signs of a period. No spotting or symptoms yet.

How likely is it I'm pregnant?

When should I do a test?

Well you've had sex, so of causes it's possible. The only way to find out is by doing a test.

Generally speaking, the MAP works by preventing ovulation, so is quite effective if taken before ovulation, but has no effect if you have already ovulated. Most people ovulate 14 day after the first day of their period, which for you would have been 1st Jan. But, you may have a shorter cycle, causing you to ovulate earlier. You haven't had enough 'normal' periods since coming off the pill to know your likely cycle length, plus lots of people have erratic cycles for a while anyway. As I said originally, its it's possible but there's just not enough information to know so your best bet is doing a test.

@foreverBubblegum

Thanks for your reply 🙂

I know, as I can't count my cycle days I'm so unsure! I'm now on day 33 of my cycle and no period.

How long do I leave it before I test?

A sensitive test (such as First Response Early Response) could give you a result now.

Have you arranged to use an alternative form of contraception? MAP are not intended as a regular form of contraception, for a start it isn’t as reliable, particularly around ovulation although EllaOne is slightly better than Levonelle on that score.

I'd say your good to test now, just to put your mind at rest. Most tests will show a positive from the first day of your missed period (day 28 on average), and some can be earlier. I got a BFP for my DS on cycle day 23, but that was my first month TTC, so I was a bit over eager. By day 33, if you are pregnant, it should be detectable.

Good luck, I hope you get the answer you want.

Thanks all.

Still no period, I think I'll wait a few days until I test as my period may be delayed due to taking the map.

Odd I've had no symptoms at all and no spotting either - does anyone have any views on this?

Yes I have been on the pill for 10 years + years but it started to give me trouble, these 2 occasions were heat of the moment and we do have a longer term plan.

To be honest what will be will be: has anyone gotten pregant after taking ellaone on here?

Thanks all.

I've used Ella MAP a couple of times in the past and it's always worked for me. Sometimes worrying can make your period late. Also, if you only came off the pill late November I think there is a slim chance as you could be pregnant as doesn't it take a while for everything to get back to normal.

Eanrcs88 · 20/01/2021 16:25

I thought this to about coming off the pill, and if I hadn't have had a period in December then I'd feel confident.

But it seems in having the period in December, that everything was back to normal quite quickly?

Have you tested?

xXOXOx · 22/01/2021 06:38

A couple of years ago I was getting cramps and my body rejected my copper coil, I went to docs and because I had sex in-between that time (only a few days) they gave me Ella and it didn't work, I still fell pregnant.

Eanrcs88 · 22/01/2021 10:36

No I haven't tested yet! I'm on day 36 now. I think it's highly likely that with coming off the pill and taking the map it's mucked my cycle up, but I'll test just in case.

Would it be too early to have signs of pregnancy?
