What size baby clothing?

I’ve started to pick up some sleepsuits in the sale etc ready for baby’s arrival .

I’m a little confused as to what size I should be getting? My friends who have had children say the sleepsuits usually come up slightly bigger... so the newborn size usually fits an 8/9 pounder rather than 7lb on the sizing guide ?

I was thinking of getting some newborn and some slightly bigger ones (up to 10lb) to take into hospital with me as obviously don’t know how much baby will weigh when he’s here .

Does anyone have any advice on these please? Thank you Smile

Our son was 10lb 12oz, he fit in the up to 10lb clothes for the 1st couple of weeks then had to move to 0-3. Our eldest girl was an average 7lb 7oz and fit in the 1st size for much longer.

Unless you are having alittle bruiser you'll be fine with the newborn/1st size. Brands have huge differences too. Places like Boots clothes are on the small side whereas Next are quite generous in baby wear.

I bought asda first size, my little one was 6lb8 at her lowest and whilst they were big on her they weren't ridiculous big. Anything smaller than 6lb8 I would go for tiny baby. After about 2 weeks I added some upto 1 month clothes
She was in the first size clothes until about 8 weeks /9-10lbs and upto 1month until 10 weeks/ 11lbs. Although the height ranges are a better indicator of fit, 0-3 month clothes go up to 13-14 lbs or 62cm, my daughter is 15lb and ~62 cm and still has quite a bit of room in them she's 5 months!

I found that 'newborn' meant something different depending on where you bought it too. But my son was 6.7 lbs and was in newborn stuff for about 6 weeks before anything 0-3 months fitted.

Thanks all! Looks like newborn size will be fine then unless he’s a bruiser! I’ll get some bigger ones as back ups.

I think it’s because it’s my first the newborn size looks tiny to me in real life ! But think I’m underestimating how small babies actually are when they’re first born .

@Reeva1988 M&S do up to 1month- I've got a few bits in this size and if I end up having a smaller baby then I'll just order a smaller size. Figured if it's a big big it won't matter too much as they aren't exactly moving much!
