Hi.

We recieved the devastating news at our dating scan that our baby has a rare serious abnormal called exendocephaly.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could really do with some support!!

The baby will not survive and we need to medically terminate :( it’s horrendous

We are due to see a foetal specialist tomorrow for further support and guidance.

We had a private scan at 8 weeks and everything was fine but this type of abnormality doesn’t normally show until 11-20 weeks so worrying!!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this Flowers.

I have no experience of this condition but I did receive bad news at my 12 week scan and was told my baby wouldn't survive and I would either have to terminate or wait to miscarry naturally. In the end, my baby died when I was 17 weeks pregnant, just before Christmas and I was medically induced.

I know it's a huge shock now, but it does get better. The induction I had was similar to what you would have if you had a medical abortion and was honestly not as awful as I had expected it to be and was over very quickly.

The specialist should be able to explain your options better tomorrow. I was initially told that I couldn't have a surgical termination but that wasn't true, I would just have had to travel to another hospital to have it, so please ask about that if you would prefer it. I would also recommend writing down any questions you have to take with you to your appointment because I found my mind just went blank.
