Trace of protein in urine

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is well given the current circumstances! 😓

Just a quick question with regards to protein in urine- probably usual me worrying about nothing!

Had my 24 week midwife app today - all totally fine apart from a small trace of protein in my urine.

Midwife is not concerned at all, it is not accompanied by any other symptoms, my blood pressure was low-normal. I suffer from no headaches or anything eye sight wise.

Anyone had this and everything been fine and it not progress or get worse?

Or alternatively would like to hear if anyone had experiences where this may have got worse.

Many thanks xxx

I have had protein in my urine at every single check up. Every time it has developed into a UTI. The only symptom I have ever had is abdominal pain - it usually starts very mildly and intermittently and is easy to mistake for stretching/general PG discomfort but I've had it so many times now that I know what to feel for. The first time it happened at 9wks because I didn't have any "symptoms" (MW thought the pain was just uterus stretching) I didn't treat it and ended up in quite a lot of pain (still told stretching but I recognise as UTI pain now) and the infection had taken hold and the antibiotics didn't work. I've now had and treated 4 of them.

If I went back I'd probably ask to get treated earlier in the hope of avoiding getting so many but hindsight is a wonderful thing! I don't think there's a problem if you don't have symptoms but maybe keep an eye out and ask if you can take another sample to be tested in a couple of weeks rather than jump straight into treatment? I think they can sometimes resolve themselves. I've been taking antibiotics for so long now that they are (perhaps counterintuitively) causing other problems (angular chelitis, yeast infections etc) so not an ideal situation to be in.

I've had protein in my urine twice but both times after they've sent it off for further tests it came back normal. If it's a morning pee or you're dehydrated it can cause protein to flag up.

Normal to have trace protein during pregnancy (your kidneys filter more blood). Wouldn’t worry about it in the slightest, it doesn’t really have any bearing on whether you will or won’t develop significant protein in the urine down the track. If no symptoms and urine otherwise clear I wouldn’t worry about a UTI either.

Great thanks! I'll put it to the back of my mind then!

Thanks for the replies! X

I could have literally written this about myself today! 25 weeks 4 days and I had my midwife appointment this morning.
Slight trace if protein but she said it was nothing to be worried about.
I think I'm generally dehydrated. I always struggle to drink a lot anyway although I am really trying during this pregnancy.
After a 2nd trimester loss last March, I'm trying to relax and not read in to every pregnancy symptom, twinge and niggle although it is hard!

Xx
