Strong Postive Early on followed by negatives

Hi All,

looking for some advice or experiences.
I took a test 1 week ago - FR- and it came up within 1 minute a very strong positive. I took another an hour later and it was a faint positive but still there, the first one was the first wee of the day and pretty concentrated. I wasn't trying and I was on the pill but I knew something was up so I took a test just to make sure and to my shock it came up I was pregnant. since then I made the big decision to keep the baby, it will be my first and it certainly wasn't in my plans.

Anyway, as a very nervous first time mum I did another test a couple of days ago, it was negative. and every test since has been negative too. I haven't had any pains or bleeding, and I know I would still be very very early on as I'm not due on my period until 1 weeks time. is it possible that I had an early miscarriage and didn't realise or that I had a surge of hormones very early on which were detected and now they have calmed down?

any experiences and knowledge will be much appreciated I feel like I'm in a very stressful limbo atm.
thanks all.

It happens quite often that after conception the embryo does not implant, or only implants for a very brief period, and a woman tests positive with an early sensitive test, and then has her period on time (or a few days late) and she's not pregnant anymore. It's called a chemical pregnancy and it may be what you are describing? Another possibility is that the first test was extremely sensitive and the others had a much higher threshold. Wait a few days and retest or see if your period starts. I recommend only using one brand of tests so you can compare the lines. Take care!

Thank you anniebu. To be honest all that I have read suggests the chemical pregnancy. will just have to confirm once I come on as havnt bled yet.

Honestly it sounds more like a false positive. If you took a test a week ago and you’re not due for another week then you took the test around the time you were ovulating so wouldn’t have been pregnant yet.
Unless your last period was actually implantation bleeding in which case it does sound like you may have sadly lost it.
I’d wait until periods due and test again.
