Can I switch hospitals when giving birth?

Hey!

So I just wanted to know, if I choose to give birth in a birth centre, but have complications and need to go to hospital, can i go to any hospital?

The reason I ask is because my ‘main’ hospital where they would send me isn’t rated very well, and if possible I would like to go to another hospital nearby which is the same distance away as the main hospital.

Any help would be appreciated!

No you won't be able to choose - if there are complications it's likely to be an emergency situation in which case you will be taken to the nearest / one with the right specialists on hand you might need / one with capacity

That's why it's often better to choose a midwife led unit attached to a specific hospital rather than a standalone one
