I'm approx 7 weeks and I've had some days constipated then some days diarrhea! Is that normal? Shouldn't you just get one or the other?

I’m 8+1 and I’m exactly the same.. some days I’m even constipated but when I finally manage to go, it’s then soft stools... Don’t know if it’s normal but I’m in the same boat anyway 🙈

I remember having this in the first trimester. It was so unpredictable!

I think in my case it was mostly due to hormones changing, and my midwife suggested a few diet changes to include more fibre and quit orange juice (I craved this sooo much), and drink lots more water instead. It settled pretty early on in the second trimester for me.

Perhaps bring it up with your midwife who might be able to recommend some changes or suggest something over the counter if it's becoming a major inconveniece to your day to day.

I had this! It settled early in the second trimester for me too. I found dairy made it worse and I was better if I reduced it. But dairy is a good source of calcium and iodine, so if you find the same, make sure to get plenty of those from somewhere else (e.g. a plant milk with those two added). Then by the second trimester i could eat normal dairy again!

I'm 6+5 and me too! 3 days on the run I've had diorrheoa Blush

I'm 8+1 and exactly the same. Plus wind...Blush

Long time ago now...but I never had morning sickness but 12 weeks of diarrhoea. Which was hardly surprising as I have IBS anyway. Basically survived on rich tea and Lucozade every day at work in order to avoid spending all day in the loo.

I’m 34 weeks now but had this terribly in the first trimester. Think it faded away by 20 weeks. I was so badly constipated from about 6 weeks, then once or twice a week would get a horrendous day of diarrhoea. One weekend it went on for days. I couldn’t eat anything I’d eaten before that awful upset tum for months 🙈

Constipation has remained awful throughout. And don’t get me started on the piles...

NatBa · 03/01/2021 21:29

I’m 5+5 and I spent half my life on the toilet and my wind is atrocious!

Luckyelephant1 · 03/01/2021 22:12

Awful wind and bloat, and constipation interspersed with days when I was wonderfully regular (that's probably my version of diarrhoea as I've always suffered with constipation). Now I've just hit 2nd trimester the bloating and wind have eased that end, but I'm now way more burpy instead- those weird internal kind of burps!

If you're taking any supplements containing iron this can really affect bowels.

JTB123 · 03/01/2021 22:14

SO normal! I had diarrhoea for the first maybe 14 weeks... the came the AWFUL days worth of constipation... then my bowels almost became normal for the first time in my adult life?! And now I'm back to diarrhoea at 27 weeks 😂😂
There is no rule book and I think due to hormones your bowels will be either here or there!

Yep 🙋🏻‍♀️ 7+4 and they are all over the place! Keep getting woken up with awful wind pain too Blush

Jessica382 · 03/01/2021 23:01

That gives me some hope hearing it might settle down, I think I'll write a food diary too.

Can I ask you ladies, after you had diarrhea, did you get a tummy ache? Mines been aching now two hours after! How can you settle it?

I'm 12+1 today, and I had some bad constipation, probably from eating Christmas rubbish. I still had my morning bran flakes but wasn't enough! Got some prune juice to help things along and then spent New Years Eve rushing to the toilet! It was like someone turned a faucet on. Blush

But I feel cleared out now, much less bloated. Definitely nothing to worry about, just progesterone playing havoc on the digestive system I think? Before Christmas I wasn't so bad but I did still suffer mild constipation and awful wind pains.

Hope yours clears up soon too! Not sure what to suggest re: tummy ache but when I've not been feeling great, I've been on the ginger nuts.
