Spotting after sex at 7 weeks pregnant

Hi all,

I could use some help and advice.

I am 7 weeks pregnant and haven't experienced any spotting or red flag symptoms. My husband and I have had sex a few times since conceiving and never had any problems before.

But last night after sex I had some spotting, which has continued throughout today. It's mostly pink but there has been a little red. I'm also kind of sore (not crampy, but it feels like somethng is bruised). It's been about 16 hours and still having light spotting.

I've read on the internet that the cervix is more sensitive and can get bruised. Has anyone had a similar experience? I called my GP and they said I need an emergency scan, but I am unfortunately away from home and was due to travel back in 2 weeks (been in Wales since August staying with family) - not eager to go to A & E if there's nothing to worry about considering how bad the virus is right now.

Many thanks.

I had spotting after sex a few times. It was more around 11-14 weeks and happened when we were a bit rough rather than every single time we had sex. The first time it happened I didn’t call anyone as I had already had some spotting earlier on in the pregnancy and the midwife said to just keep an eye on so I figured they’d say the same. It was still terrifying nonetheless.

I figured out it’s sex related but it was still worrying every single time that perhaps it was more. Mention it your midwife when you speak to them next.

Thanks @MsHedgehog, that's helpful. Did the bleeding last into the next day or was it just a tiny bit immediately after?

It varied. Sometimes it was just a one off wipe and that was it. Other times it went on for about two days. It was never enough to need a panty liner. It was just when I wiped.

It was usually a bit of brown, but sometimes the brown would become streaky red. I’m now 26 weeks and not had any bleeding after sex since around week 14.

Thank you so much @MsHedgehog. Can't tell you how reassuring that is! Sounds exactly the same for me, don't need a panty liner just notice it when I use the loo. Just going to rest and take it easy and hope it will pass.

Happy for you, good luck x

Try not to worry. I know that’s really easy to say because the first time I had spotting (unrelated to sex) my heart literally dropped and I was terrified. With the later spotting I knew it was related to sex but I was still a tad worried.

You should mention it to the midwife. They will probably just say keep an eye on it, but best to just let them know.

Good luck to you too! Hope it all goes well! x

All of my pregnancies I have had spotting at some point after sex.
I'd say it sounds normal! It can be scary though

Thanks @SnooperTrooper12345. That's reassuring. I'm mostly back to normal today so feeling less worried.
