Breakthrough bleeding @ 6 wks?

Hi, I know this is a really common question, so I hope you will forgive me...

I am 6 weeks pregant, first pregancy and in the last few days I have started to get on-off 'spotting'. I understand that this is not unusual and does not necessarily signify an impending m/c - I've had occasional mid-cycle bleeding in the past, and put it down to hormone flutuations, as a gynae exams showed nothing wrong. I'm 31 years old and in good health.

What I really want to know is this: Is there are point in consulting my GP about this? I don't need to go the surgery to be reassured that everything is probably fine, so I just wondered if there is any meaningful examination or test that can be done at this early stage to check baby is ok?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

I have barely had any pregnancy related symptoms yet... i have tried to convince myself i think im having some morning sickness but i think that might just be my ear infection making me feel ill... im 7 weeks today shouldnt i be getting something by now???

Helen I really wouldnt worry about that, some people get no symptoms, no sickness and have healthy babies. Others have lots of symptoms, I always get really bad sickness even on the ones I miscarried, infact my first one I was still throwing up when the baby had died 2 weeks b4. So symptoms dont always mean anything. Although I understand its more comforting sometimes when you have them even though they are unpleasant.

Looney- How you doing/ Hope all goes ok.

best wishes to those in the horrible limbo period between scans.

bloodsucking looney - regarding your comment about the registrar - to some extent he is right - as in IIRC 15% of viable pregnancies the HCG levels don't double every 48 hours, there is a smaller increase. Scans after a wait to give time for the baby to develop are a lot more reliable. I insisted on the blood tests when I had an ambiguous scan - and the results indicated a probable ectopic - but fortunately had a scan the next day and the PG was absolutely fine.

hello everyone

just to let you no went to have scan yesterday and the baby is absolutely fine.. still having a bit of bleeding but the doctor said its nothing to worry about

saw its heartbeat and eveything, theyve now said my dates are out by a week and a half so im now 6+3 not 7+5 but waiting for the scan was defintly worth the wait

hope everyone is ok xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all well and all pending scans were good news.

Bloodsucking - I really hope you are OK. I had a missed m/c 3 months ago and I know how distressing it is.

Can I ask whether any of you have kept on bleeding? I am 7 wks tomorrow and have been bleeding for 10 days and I wondered whether any of you were in the same boat?
