Miscarriage or Ectopic pregnancy?

Hi ladies, thanks in advance for any help.
Around a month ago I got my period, this was our first month trying to conceive, so I just shrugged it off and thought we would try again next month.
I wanted to get a better picture of my cycle and so decided I would start to take ovulation tests right at the end of my period. I was really shocked to see a blaring positive ovulation test and had heard people mention that this could be an indicator of pregnancy. I then took a pregnancy test and to my shock there was a second line, it was faint but it was there.
I rang the doctors because honestly I knew from the get go that something was wrong. When I got my bloods drawn my HCG was relatively low, around 50. 48 hours later they rose to 70, at this stage my doctor was pretty certain I would miscarry but wanted to continue taking my bloods to ensure it didn’t keep creeping up (as this would indicate an EP). I went in 48 hours later, my doctor didn’t give me my numbers but said the results indicated I was going to miscarry (so I assumed they had dropped).
Jump to today, my pregnancy tests are still showing as positive, the line has stayed the same, no darker, no fainter. I have been very lightly spotting for the last 5 days and have had abdominal cramping (not on any particular side), the blood seems to be old as it’s mainly dark brown with small amounts of red. I just assumed this was a miscarriage, but any reading I’ve done suggests that a miscarriage = heavy bleeding.
I just want women with more experience than I have to weigh in and help me understand what is happening, is this a miscarriage? Would I have taken this long to miscarry considering how low my HCG was?

I just had a miscarriage and it wasn’t heavy bleeding, it was lighter than a normal period and also varied between a flow and spotting. It takes a while for the hcg to go down, so you can continue to test positive for a while after (mine even got darker!). Your hcg levels should indicate what is happening or a scan if you are far enough along. They only discharged me when the hcg went below 25 but I continued to bleed for a while after that. Just stopped almost 2 weeks later. Sounds like you have got medics looking into it. I would ask them what your hcg levels are and monitor yourself. Wishing you well, this is not fun.
