Hi guys,

Looking to hear from those of you who had GBS during pregnancy.

Did you have to be induced after your waters broke?

Were you able to to have a vaginal delivery?

If you were induced, did you require epidural or was gas and air enough?

My last birth was treated as GBS positive. I was given antibiotics after my waters broke then induced.
I did get through with just Gas and Air, but my labour was only a couple of hours long.
It was a vaginal delivery also. I'm due in a few weeks so will be tested and see how things go this time round.

I tested positive for GBS during my last pregnancy, but it was nearly 14 years ago. Basically they told me I needed to get to hospital once I was sure labour was starting so they could put me on an antibiotic drip 6 hours before the birth. I asked how I was supposed to assess when 6 hours beforehand might be but they just said oh, come as soon as you're in labour. So after the first couple of twinges I headed to hospital in a taxi, leaving DP with DS1 to come and join me later once things got going and nursery had opened for Ds1. Cut a long story short, 32 minutes after arriving at hospital I had a baby (so thank goodness i had been told to head in early) but they hadn't even started setting up the drip. As a result they wanted me and Ds2 to stay in for 48 hours after the birth so he could be monitored. Barely anyone checked on him and it was a pretty miserable 48 hours as all I wanted was to get home to DS1. He was fine, though. There was never any suggestion that I shouldn't or couldn't have a vaginal birth.
