Hi...
I am prescribed Sumatriptan for my migraines. I don't get them too often but when I do they wipe me out for a few days.

Currently we're TTC our first baby and this weekend I've had bad migraine, I've just been taking paracetamol as I have ran out of my Sumatriptan. I've just been online now to order some more from my GP and I started to wonder if we were to become pregnant are Sumatriptan ok to take? I know this is a question I can ask my GP if and when I do become pregnant but it just got me thinking about it today as I needed to order more.

Any help or info anyone can give me would be hugely appreciated and if anyone has any helpful tips? (I was up at 5:30am with a cold wet sock on my head to ease the pain! That was the quickest thing I could think to find at that time!haha)

I suffer from migraines as well and I'm prescribed sumatriptan too. I did a lot of Googling with my first pregnancy because, like you, I can't function when I have a migraine.
Of the triptans, sumatriptan is okay to use in pregnancy. Studies found there was no greater prevalence of miscarriage for women who took sumatriptan versus those who didn't and just suffered their migraine.

Saying that I am a paranoid soul, so I tried to avoid taking it if I could but always ended up taking some. I think during my first pregnancy before 12 weeks I took sumatriptan twice (and I take 2 at a time, so 4 tablets). It has been the same this time but it was 4 before 7 weeks.

When I was pregnant the first time I was prescribed aspirin (75mg) from 12 weeks, as there was a family history of pre-eclampsia. For the rest of my pregnancy I never had migraine or headache. That could have been pregnancy hormones, but as I was having migraines more frequently with this pregnancy, I asked my GP if I could take aspirin before 12 weeks. He said it would be fine. So far I've not had a migraine just regular headaches that paracetamol helps. It could be a coincidence but I'm going to keep takjng the aspirin.

Anyway, TLDR sumatriptan is fine in pregnancy.

As Gennia said - here’s a useful leaflet with info.
