Tested positive at 3+3 - petrified it’s twins?!

Hi all,

DP and I just started ttc’ing where we both knew we may encounter some issues (I have suspected pcos) I’ve just taken an early CB early test this evening and it came up positive within seconds... My jaw has hit the floor as I didn’t imagine it would happen this fast!! Safe to say I am freaking out but still happy - mostly shocked and it’s not sinking in!

From working dates out I am currently 3+3 days (period due Christmas Day), so I’m only a few days off a missed period anyway so wondered if this is normal?

Has anyone else found they were carrying twins from an early test or maybe it’s just strong hormones?!

Now I’m trying to this what I do next Shock, I’m absolutely petrified as this will be my first.

Hi, I had fertility treatment so my dates are exact, I tested positive at 3+1, I’m
now 6 +3 and I’ve had two scans - there’s only one in there :)

So hopefully the same for you - and congratulations x

EllyNC · 22/12/2020 21:57

Was it an early detection test? I think twins can generate more hcg so show earlier but also lots of people get positives days before their period is due so it could be just the one ☺️ Congratulations!!! ☺️

Worriedandabitscared · 22/12/2020 21:57

I got a really strong positive about a week before my period and there's only one baby in there :)

Scaredycat101 · 22/12/2020 22:02

Oh wow thank you all so much for replying so fast, you're all so kind Smile.

It was a CB early detection one and I took the first maybe 2 days ago and it was a right squinter so thought I may have had line eyes! Tried again tonight on a whim and bam, clear as day!

That's a relief to know, hopefully there is one little bean in there, I guess now I have a long wait to reach 12 weeks! Thank you all so much, I'm petrified and already crying as I'm a real worrier and overthinker so will be a nightmare...

Are you guys all expecting, too?

Yes 34 weeks today so he's due soon! Haha congratulations on your positive by the way, try not to worry too much Thanks
Scaredycat101 · 22/12/2020 22:07

Okay, of course some of you are expecting as you've shared your amazing news, too! Congrats ladies!

Wow this has really put me into a state of shock - so sorry! 😂

I took a clear blue test 6 days before my period with dd and ds and got a positive. I only had singletons.

Two days before your period is due, really isn't that early! That being said, congratulations, wishing you a healthy, happy pregnancy.

hotcrosswhat · 22/12/2020 22:15

Congratulations OP Bear I had a faint positive at 3+4 on an internet cheapie then a strong positive the next day on a more sensitive test - the scan at 7+5 (and the scans I've had since!) show one baby.

Scaredycat101 · 22/12/2020 22:24

@Worriedandabitscared wow congrats, that's really not long to go now, bet you can't wait to meet him 🥰!

@Sceptre86 Ah that's a relief, glad it's not too out the norm - definitely looks like I may have jumped he gun about twins, as per usual! I think we could only afford one but no point worrying about that yet.

@hotcrosswhat congrats on your little one 😀, that all sounds super reassuring . It's amazing you got a scan at 6 weeks too, I thought you have to wait until 12 weeks or does it depend?

If there's any threads that you guys recommend for FTMs do let me know, I may go trawling MN in a bit when I've stopped shaking like a leaf!

Thanks @Scaredycat101 Smile I paid for a private scan before the 12 week scan as I had a lot of cramps and pains (literally doubled over with them at times, worse than period pains) - plus I'm a very anxious first timer!! I then paid for another private scan just a few days later as I had some heavy bleeding at 8+0 Sad and couldn't wait three days for an NHS scan, then an NHS very quick scan/check up at 14 weeks for back cramps and bad pains again, but I'm 20+3 now with my boy now and so far so good...just trying not to worry about the 20 week scan this week, we've let ourselves in for a whole new world of worrying! Writing it all down makes it seem very dramatic and I've been so scared at times, but he's been fine so far thank goodness, I just wanted to get checked out if anything didn't feel right.

hotcrosswhat · 22/12/2020 22:52

...sorry that turned into a bit of an essay! Blush as of 15 weeks I'm a low risk pregnancy despite all that. We'll see if 20 weeks gives a similar positive outlook 🤞🏻 The pains and bleeding are not unusual, which I do know, but I wasn't prepared at all for the amount of pain or bleeding!!

1stMrsFatherChristmas · 22/12/2020 22:53

Mother of twins here. Congratulations on your BFP, whether it's one or more it will be the best thing you ever did. And it it's two you'll cope. I feel very fortunate to have had one healthy pregnancy and birth for two healthy children (now 11yo).

SquirtleSquad · 22/12/2020 22:53

My positive with twins showed up later and my positive with one showed up early! Good luck either way.

Scaredycat101 · 22/12/2020 23:07

@hotcrosswhat I'm relieved that despite all the scans and worry everything is going super well for you! Private scans are great for that extra reassurance, I'll try and wait it out for 12 weeks unless I get any bleeds, etc. I'm sure the 20 week scan will go brilliantly, sending lots of good vibes your way! Definitely not dramatic at all, I would do the same to make sure baby is okay Smile

@1stMrsFatherChristmas Thank you so much, if we're blessed to have twins I'm determined to be up for the challenge. I do worry about the financial side of things especially but they would be a blessing either way. Hope your two are doing well!

@SquirtleSquad Ahh that's crazy! Looks like there's no rhyme or reason with these things, so I'll just go with the flow. Grin

It's more likely you just ovulated earlier than you think. It's normal to get a BFP as much as 5 days before your period is due these days as tests are so sensitive

I'm having twins and I got a very faint BFP around 3+1

Scaredycat101 · 23/12/2020 10:17

@ivfbeenbusy That's a good point, the CB digital reader I used was new the day before I got the static smiley, which I think it always shows a non fertile day no matter what. So maybe I had ovulated a bit earlier🧐

Congrats on your twins and hope you're doing well! 🥰

RosettaR · 23/12/2020 10:43

Well I am pregnant with twins, from ivf and my lines were pretty faint on the OTD which would be equivalent to a good few days after the missed period. So I'm not convinced the faintness or darkness of the line has that much to do with whether it's twins.

Scaredycat101 · 23/12/2020 11:00

@RosettaR congratulations on your twins! Yep I'd definitely agree with you there, now I've slept on it (and calmed down) it would be bonkers to even think an early positive test means twins!

Plus, after hearing all these amazing experiences, 3+3 weeks isn't really that early anyway ☺️.

OP posts:
gretagreengrapes · 23/12/2020 13:24

I had a dark strong line for BFP at not quite 4 weeks and I had hyperemesis from week 5, and was so worried it was twins! (Both DP and I have twin siblings so this was not an outrageous thought) But there's just one in there. I think pregnancy just makes you think all sorts of things!

Scaredycat101 · 27/01/2021 17:04

Just in case anyone else reads in future, I had an early scan at 8+4 and only one little baby 🥰!

@Scaredycat101 Aww that’s so exciting! Congratulations!!!

XSunflower · 27/01/2021 17:14

I got quite a strong positive on Monday, and my period isn’t due until tomorrow. One of the tests I did was a clear blue digital which I didn’t think would show that early 😂 booking a private scan on 20th feb so I’ll let you know how many are in there...twins on my mums side and partners mum and dad side so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more than one! 😂

Moominmiss · 27/01/2021 17:46

I got my bfp this time at 3+1 (I temp and use opk’s so dates are certain). I’m only 5+3 now so nowhere near finding out how many are in there but I’m hopeful it’s only the one.

I’m so glad everything went well at your scan!

mistletoeandsigh · 27/01/2021 18:40

Yes I tested positive with my pregnancies very early. No twins!
