Diagnosed CP but stronger positives

Hi all

On Saturday I had my first postive pregnancy test - Clear blue week indicator which displayed 1-2 weeks
On Sunday I had some pain and bleeding (like a period) and was advised to go to a&e. Whilst in A&E I did a cheap test strip test which after 2 minutes the nurse said was negative and threw in the bin and said I had a chemical pregnancy.

5 days after A&E i did a morrisons pregnancy test just so I could see a negative result to put my mind at rest which came back very positive.

Today (6 days since A&E) i have done a second morrisons pregnancy test which is even stronger than yesterdays result!! Todays test was also mid afternoon NOT first wee of the day.

I have also done another clear blue week indicator which has now gone to 2-3 weeks! Could my HCG levels still grow causing more positive results following a chemical pregnancy!?

I have gone from being 1-2 weeks on clear blue to beinf told id had a chemical pregnancy to almost a week later going to 2-3 weeks and what I think are strong postiives?!?! Pictures to follow

Maybe not a chemical afterall?

Csrb123 · 19/12/2020 17:36

@physicskate just curious if hcg could Still increase after a chemical? Or if people have been in similar situations and pregnancy has carried on as normal. From what I've read hcg should decrease following a chemical not increase but being told by a nurse its a chemical I dont know what to believe!

It doesn't sound like you had a chemical pregnancy. It sounds as if you are pregnant - did the nurse do anything else other than ask you to POAS? Blood tests?

Csrb123 · 19/12/2020 17:45

@MaelyssQ no, no blood tests. Just what seemed like a cheap test which didn't show within the first 2 minutes so he threw it away and said it must have been a chemical. But at the time I was using FRER tests which obviously detect lower HCG than the cheap test the A&E nurse would have used? Not sure if im just trying to convince myself or if there is a chance I could still be pregnant Confused

I think there's a chance you still are (and I hate to give anyone false hope) either that or something implanted and is causing hCG to rise in which case you would need to be checked out.
Try buying the cheap strips from the supermarket (£1 for 2) and seeing if they show.
Unfortunately, there is a chance that it's just about the test sensitivity and your hCG is lower but almost a week after a CP, I wouldn't imagine that from what you've described.

Fingers crossed for you OP 🤞

I had 2 chemicals and both the hcg never got darker

Csrb123 · 19/12/2020 19:51

@User43210 any ideas how I can upload the pics? So I can show you how much the tests have got stronger

I would bet my salary that you are pregnant. I am a nurse (not a midwife) and I have never known anyone with a chemical pregnancy continue to have positive tests afterwards. Please look after yourself and see if it is possible to have a virtual consultation with a midwife on Monday.

Csrb123 · 19/12/2020 20:06

@MaelyssQ hi, I really do hope so! Just the fact I bled like a period for 4 days although it was a brown colour still quite heavy with painful cramps? Is it still possible? Thank you so much!

You may have been pregnant with twins and have unfortunately miscarried one of them? Fingers crossed you get the answer you’re hoping for. I would try and get a private scan maybe or speak to a midwife ASAP.

Csrb123 · 19/12/2020 20:16

@TheGriffle Maybe, I hadn't thought of that! Not sure how to upload photos but the tests are clearly progressing darker lines on the 3 tests ive done over the last 3 days. Especially today the line is a lot darker than yesterday's! Just so confusing I had come to terms with the fact it was a chemical after being told by the A&E nurse but it seemed so vauge when I was there nothing was done other than a cheap test Hmm

When you reply there should be a paper clip near the emoji and text buttons, you can use this to add a photo (apparently not if you're new to MN, though)

My CP got lighter as I was bleeding so from my experience it wouldn't be a chemical, but everyone is different. I will say I got pregnant that cycle without another bleed between and that does happen to a lot of people so even if it is, make sure you DTD this month if you are trying/ready for another BFP. (Although I truly think the doctor was wrong, apparently they often don't leave the test for long enough)

Csrb123 · 20/12/2020 09:35

Another test done this morning and its 100% darker than the last couple of days... Suppose ill have to just wait and see

If you're getting positive tests then you're pregnant. There isn't really such thing as a clinical diagnosis of a chemical pregnancy, those strip tests aren't very sensitive and medical staff haven't got time to faff around peering at faint lines for half an hour like we do, so you can see how he came to that conclusion. Give the EPU a ring tomorrow and they'll probably test you again.

Hazey2018 · 05/02/2021 23:30

How did you get on? I hope good news. X

Csrb123 · 06/02/2021 16:42

@Hazey2018 Hey, unfortunately it wasn't good news, I carried on getting strong positive tests but after another week the bleeding started again and had a scan to confirm it was gone. But on the bright side I fell pregnant again on the next cycle and I am currently 4 weeks pregnant! Hopefully smoother this time x

@Csrb123 I. Sorry to hear that but congratulations. I had a chemical loss at the start of January. Then feeling different, tested a week ago, positive. The doctors are investigating me for PUL but I am convinced this is a new pregnancy (the cycle after also) in 4 weeks today counting the first day of my bleed as my period. I’m just so anxious. Fingers crossed I’m right.

Csrb123 · 06/02/2021 17:54

@Hazey2018 The timings are similar to me, the second lot of bleeding was the 8th of Jan so counting as the start of a new cycle as I tested negative just before, I did do an OPK and ovulated around cycle day 15 so I guess everything just went back to normal pretty quick as it was so early in the last pregnancy! Did you test negative after your chemical?

OP posts:
Hazey2018 · 06/02/2021 18:01

Mine was the 9th! I didn’t test after bleeding but I got a negative the day before my positive, the doctor didn’t seem to take notice notice of that. Had a scan on wed which showed nothing obviously and the Hcg on wed and yesterday. Now plan for another scan Friday which again not sure how conclusive it will be but will surely prove things moving forward.

This is exactly what I said happened to me, and now I'm quickly approaching my due date, just a few weeks off. Smile best of luck with this one and try to enjoy it (as difficult as that is after loss!) it's the most amazing but also scary time! Thanks
