7 weeks pregnant - Bright red bleeding, no cramps

I am currently 7+1 and I have been feeling very out of it today with tiredness and just woke up from a nap. Popped to the loo and when I wiped I had bright red fresh blood, almost like the first couple of days of a period and my pee was red. It felt pretty heavy to me so anyway, popped a pad on and since that happened about an hour and a half ago, I haven’t had any more. I have no other symptoms like severe cramping or pains, no dizzy spells or fainting. I feel fine in myself apart from the tiredness and nausea feeling all day! I called my GP and explained what had happened, she called the Early Pregnancy Unit for me who said to monitor overnight and if I get any more bleeding then to call them tomorrow and they will have me in for an early scan. They said that it could be implantation bleeding... At 7 weeks? I thought that happened earlier on? This is my first pregnancy so it was a little alarming to see the bleeding. Has anyone had anything similar? xo

Hey, I had the same at 7 weeks and it turned out to be a subchorionic haemorrhage - all was fine with baby. Fx for you xxx

bob1985 · 18/12/2020 19:46

i've bled from around 6/7 weeks in all my pregnancies.

3 pregnancies- 1 DD

Sadly it can go either way. Only way to confirm is often a scan.

It's scary. Remember you can't control the outcome.

Speak to your midwife/early pregnancy centre abs get checked out

PFin · 19/12/2020 02:11

Thie happened to me this pregnancy and im still no wiser as to why. Now nearly 20 weeks and all ok. Try not to panic.

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 08:25

@shelbyrae @bob1985 @PFin Thanks so much ladies for your replies. Monitored it overnight... Haven’t had any more fresh bleeding, just brown spotting / when I wipe now. I have my first midwife appointment on Christmas Eve but if I have any more bleeding between now and then, then I will get in touch with the Early Pregnancy Unit again. Trying to stay calm and not panic Smile xx

Implantation bleeding? I really dont think so!
Ive bled in both of my pregnancies, 1 is 5 years old and im currently 24 weeks. Its scary to see, and natural to think the worst, but it doesnt mean it is.
I would say pop along to your EPU for piece of mind but id second guess that if they are suggesting its implantation bleeding. Plus they probably wont scan you over the weekend.

Good luck xx

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 09:57

Thanks @Aprilbaby21 for your advice. Pleased to hear you had a successful first pregnancy and your second one seems to be going great too Smile. I am definitely trying not to think of the worst. We was planning on telling our parents on Christmas Day that we are pregnant but now I am a bit apprehensive as I don’t want to get their hopes up just in case. I agree on the implantation bleeding. I thought this happened a lot earlier than 7 weeks! I’m new to this so could be wrong though. Will see how things go over the weekend as like you say, I doubt I’d get a scan until next week at the very earliest xx

Defo agree with @Aprilbaby21 i would push for a scan on your EPU all bleeding needs to be reported and as it is common its not typical pregnancy symptom. Try get a scan and I hope all works out well! Good Luck

3rdtimelucky2019 · 19/12/2020 10:19

If you've got the option of a scan, have it. I've had bleeding in successful and unsuccessful pregnancies

I'm pregnant again and this stuck with me from my booking appointment, 'report all bleeding. Bleeding ISNT normal but can be investigated'.

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 12:49

@PFin @3rdtimelucky2019 Thanks girls. It is definitely not something I’m going to ignore. I will let you know how I get on xx

I had this a few times between 5-8 weeks in my first pregnancy, as well as brown blood. I had a scan at 6 weeks and all was fine. He’s 5 now, still don’t know why I bled so much!

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 14:21

@BowiesJumper Thanks! That is reassuring. It’s really strange as it literally happened yesterday once when I went to the loo and nothing since. No pains or cramping. I’m just left with a bit of brown spotting but hardly anything. I’m hoping the fact it seems to have gone and not persisted is a good thing. Did yours happen as one off occasions or did you bleed over a course of time?

BowiesJumper · 19/12/2020 14:37

It started with brown spotting, but quite a bit at 5wks, then just past 6wks I was out and had a gush of red blood when I went to the loo one night when I was out. It was sort of like first day of period heavy. Then a bit of red spotting, which is why I had the scan a couple of days later. Then I had red just when I wiped (varying amounts, sometimes just a tiny bit, sometimes period like) for a week or so and then brown for a week or two more.

Bearcub01 · 19/12/2020 14:45

I had this at 7 weeks went I went for a poo, bright red blood just that one time then went to brown spotting. Had a scan and all was ok, they said it was implantation bleeding.

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 14:45

@BowiesJumper I had the brown spotting towards the end of my 5th week too, was very light though and lasted about 2-3 days. And the gush of blood you mention you had when you was out sounds like what I had last night and there was no sign it was going to happen, completely out of no where. Thanks for sharing your story with me, I never quite realised how much of a rollercoaster this first trimester was going to be!

OP posts:
sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 14:47

@Bearcub01 That seems to be the case with me too at the moment. It was one time when I went to the loo, since then I have had no more red blood but just brown spotting. When I spoke to my GP yesterday, they spoke with the EPU and said that it could be implantation bleeding to me too... But I thought that happened earlier than 7 weeks?

OP posts:
Bearcub01 · 19/12/2020 14:57

@sunshinecitrus1 no it can still happen with the embryo attaching to your womb. You may also be earlier than 7 weeks if you’ve not had a scan yet?

sunshinecitrus1 · 19/12/2020 15:28

@Bearcub01 Ah ok, that makes sense Smile Not had my scan yet. I have my booking appointment with the midwife on Christmas Eve. Will be 8 weeks on the dot then if my estimate due date is correct x

I had some read bleeding just on one wipe between 6 and 7 weeks. I know how scary it is seeing that! Was told if any pain or more bleeding to get back in touch but thankfully I was fine after that. Currently 24 weeks :)

lobster8 · 19/12/2020 17:04

I had really really heavy gushing bleeding with both my pregnancies at 7 weeks. It was bloody scary but neither were miscarriages. I did lose DD1 much later (she was stillborn) but there was no link to the bleeding throughout my pregnancy and her loss. My DD2, it was just one very heavy bleed at 7 weeks and nothing more, other then that a textbook pregnancy and she's 4 now.

sunshinecitrus1 · 21/12/2020 19:13

@introv3rt @lobster8 Thanks for your reply ladies and lobster8, I am so sorry to hear about you losing DD1. I haven’t had any more red blood since Friday but I have had brown spotting on and off since then. Still with no pains or cramping. I have been feeling really worried like something is wrong all weekend, even though I haven’t had any more red blood. I decided to call up the EPU again today and now have a scan on Sunday 27th (earliest they could give me over the Christmas period!). Can’t quite imagine having to wait so many more weeks to find out whether things are OK or not. Don’t think my anxiety could take it. Keep your fingers crossed for me xx

Hi Ladies!
Just to update anyone who may / is experiencing similar to what I did... I had my early scan yesterday. Baby is fine with a heartbeat Smile The sonographer spotted a little blood clot which would have been the cause of my bleeding last week. It could have been due to something I had done such as overdoing it at work etc. but they are not concerned and it hasn’t affected baby. They told me to rest up as much as I can and that as long as I don’t have bleeding that is really heavy and I don’t have any pains / cramps then they hope in the nicest way they won’t see me back at the EPU Smile The scan made things feel very real yesterday! xo
