IVF first scan - no fetal pole and showing smaller then I should?

Hi,
Had my first early scan today, I should be 7 weeks from my egg transfer.
She could see a sac and a yolk sac, no fetal pole or heartbeat and showing a week and a half smaller, she has asked me to go back in 2 weeks to see if any improvement, she said this can happen but through a very concerned looking face.
I feel it’s all over for me, just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and things progressed.
I have had some light brown discharge but I put this down to pesseries I am on through having IVF. My boobs have been very sore but they do feel like they are settling down now.

Any advice from anyone who has been through similar would be much appreciated right now.

Thanks

Hi op,

I've been through similar.

2 miscarriages after ivf. From what my consultant said the
chances of success if they don't see a heartbeat at 7 weeks are very slim.

You be the exception, but i don't want to give false hope.

A huge hug to you. Take care of yourself and i wish you luck.

I do now have a DD following another round of ivf

*you could be the exception

Yeah I’m feeling it’s more negative than positive but there is always hope. I’ve felt utterly devastated all day and like a huge failure. But I’m sure I’ll pick myself up out of it. Thanks for your response. I don’t tell anyone anything other than partner so it’s nice to have some where to have my thoughts/fears heard xxx

I had this happen to me OP, and you have my utmost sympathy as the waiting between scans was horrendous. Sadly I did not have a good outcome and although I prepared myself as much as I could for this eventuality, it still came as a crushing blow. It felt, and still does feel, so utterly utterly cruel to get so close and yet have it end this way.

I hope more than anything that you are the exception to the rule and you have a good outcome, but I would try to prepare yourself for the worst. I read countless stories of early scans being deceiving / people being wrong about dates but these were almost always naturally conceived pregnancies and in hindsight the smidgeon of hope they offered was not really helpful in my coming to terms with the reality of the situation.

Sending hugs at what must be a horrible time for you.

Puddlelane123 · 18/12/2020 22:43

Ps - you are not remotely a failure. I know it feels that way, but you are not. You are a warrior for having gone through all you have to get to this stage.

Hi OP. I'm afraid IVF dates are pretty solid so measuring 1.5 weeks behind isn't great. Like PP have said you should be able to see a heartbeat at 7 weeks. Sorry this is happening to you - I've been there with IVF, it's totally shit.

@Maeva20 I had the same experience waiting between scans is just horrid. This jan we were suppose to be 8/9 weeks pregnant and early scan showed 6weeks and very faint heart beat. The lady who did the scan indeed looked very disturbed, unfortunately a week later there was no heart beat :(

Hope it's a better outcome for you xoxo

Hi, thanks for your responses.

Totally gutted, it feels like a cruel game.

Really thought this was it for me xxx
