Fragmin injections post birth.. can I still have a water birth?

Spoke to haematologist today regarding fragmin injections.. she said I will have to take them for at least 6 weeks post birth, due to my sister having dvt whilst pregnant. She said it’s highly unlikely I will need them from 28 weeks as I am low bmi, don’t smoke, etc.. but 100% having them after birth.

Has anyone been told they need the injections but still been allowed to have a water birth? I have my heart set on it

Hi - if you don’t need it til after birth, it should have zero bearing on whether you have a water birth or not, so I wouldn’t worry. It’s usually not given until at least several hours post birth (often the next day). There are other things that would impact on water birth though so just make sure you talk your wishes through with your midwife and go from there. All the best.

Thanks so much. I had a water birth with my second and would love to go back to the midwife led unit for another.
