5 weeks pregnant and no yolk sac

Hi ladies, I’m currently 5 weeks + 1 day and was displaying some symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy a couple of days ago. I had an ultrasound and an internal scan and there was no sign of ectopic pregnancy on my left Fallopian tube, but they couldn’t get a good enough view of my right tube to completely rule out an ectopic pregnancy at this stage.

I do have a sac of amniotic fluid in my womb but no yolk sac as of yet. I’m going back in two weeks to have another scan 1) to be sure theres no ectopic pregnancy on my right ovary (hopefully they can get a better view!) and 2) to hopefully see that a yolk sac has developed.

I’m a first time mum and this whole situation has scared me so much. I am so worried that the reason I don’t have a yolk sac yet is because my pregnancy is no longer viable. I’m also worried that when I go back in two weeks and they scan my right tube that they’ll find the fetus growing there instead and that’s why there’s no yolk sac or sign of a fetus in my womb!

I know every pregnancy is different but did anybody else experience anything like this in the early weeks? I thought at least a yolk sac would’ve developed and have been noticeable by 5 weeks but maybe I’m mistaken?

I’m trying not to stress too much about it but the waiting game over these next two weeks will be unbearable!

You'd be very lucky to be able to exclude an ectopic by ultrasound at 5 weeks. Could very well see nothing at all. Unfortunately a lot of private places are irresponsible and do not make it clear it's way too early. At this stage, it's better to rely on hcg - do your levels double every 48-72 hours? If yes everything is looking good, wait for them to reach a few thousands though before going for a scan. If hcg levels don't rise as they should your doc will advise you. Chances are you're fine. Good luck!

I had no yolk sac at 5 weeks and it ended in MC later for me. The growth was very slow after that.
It was an NHS scan, my first month of ttc and clueless.
Looking back i wouldn't have gone to EPU for spotting/cramps at 5 weeks as it's always inconclusive results. And more stress.
Hope you get a different outcome OP x

I know this was a while ago but is there any update?
