1 in 57 chance of Down syndrome

Hi,

This is my 1st baby and unfortunately I missed my 12 week scan due to having to self isolate. When I went for my scan I was 14 weeks + 3 which meant trying to measure for fluid on the back of the baby’s neck was difficult. Instead I had a blood test and from this a consultant has called to say my hcg level was slightly high and I have a 1 in 57 chance of my baby having Down syndrome.

I have now had a harmony test and have to wait an agonising week for the results.

Has anyone else had the same probabilities and what was the outcome as I’m obviously extremely worried.

Thanks!

Hey! I had a very similar problem with my DD - 1 in 55 and she is a healthy and normal teenager!

Thank you! xx

I had 1 in 110 after combined test, did harmony and the result was less than 1 in 10 000. I know how you feel about the wait ! For me it was the worst, most uncertain and anxious week of my life but wow, the relief after the positive phone call - unforgettable!
Wish you all the best and I’m sure it will be fine ! xx

I had 1 in 60 from blood test , so had amnio which came back clear. Dd is 23 in her last year uni of studying to be an OT

I had 1/123 and he’s normal healthy child.

I was also extremely worried and we studied the baby scan like CSI agents, looking for all the tell tale signs of DS.

StaceImpactWfan · 17/12/2020 10:56

I had 1 in 7 chance. But I refused further tests. My son was born without downs syndrome but he did has a heart condition and was and still is small for his age. He's 4 now and heart condition resolved its self.

1 in 97. Same reason. High hormone levels pushed me into high risk. Had the nipt and came back as 1 in a million chance.
It was horrible waiting and was a real shock as I never expected anything to show up. So I know what you are going through. Good luck. X

I had a 1 in 32 chance so had an amino which came back clear. DS was born completely healthy. I understand how worrying it is but the chances are overwhelmingly in your favour.

Thank you all so much for making me feel so positive. We had our results today and we’re low risk for all of the tests! Never been happier and more relieved! Hope this post will help someone as much as it helped me x

@User2701 thank goodness! And thanks for letting everyone know. I scrolled through Mumsnet looking for people that had positive results. It's really reassuring when the poster lets you know what happened.

Good luck with the rest of you pregnancy xxx

crosbyrose · 22/12/2020 20:19

That’s great news @User2701 you must be thrilled to bits! Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy Smile

1:57 as a percentage is 1.75%. If the weather man said there is a 1% of rain today would you think it’s going to rain or probably going to rain? I can’t imagine the worry you must feel as I’d be the same but sometimes if you put thinks into actual percentages it doesn’t seem so scary. Sending a big hug anyway

Can you please stop referring to your children without Down's syndrome as normal?! Children's with Down's syndrome are normal too!
