Hi ladies.

We all know that the guidelines are to be particularly attentive to social distancing in our 3rd trimester. Has anyone had covid during theirs?

I’m currently 30 weeks and struggling to decide how strict to be over Christmas - whether we only see family outdoors or whether to go ahead and mix/stay with family up to the 3 household rule.

Thoughts and experiences appreciated :)

I’m 30 weeks in a few days, I’m just meeting 3 other households, following the rules in place. My husband is a high school teacher and half his school and department have it, we also have children aged 3 and 4 in nursery and reception. My parents also collect our children from school, my mum is a nurse looking after covid patients. So there’s not really much point me being precious about seeing people over Xmas when I’m surrounded by people who are out mixing some knowingly with people who have it. I’m working from home (no one is allowed in the office at the moment, not because I’m pregnant). Unless I lock myself away from my immediate family I’ve come to accept the chances of me getting it are high. I said to my husband as long as he doesn’t get it around my due date I’m not too worried, I just don’t want to give birth alone. I’m not worried about catching it (I am following every guideline though and not mixing with anyone apart from my immediate family and parents).

If you are worried just don’t see family, I don’t think I’d isolate from family unless there are government restrictions in place though.

I work in a school I'm due to be off from 28 weeks. No cases in my school yet but quite common locally more cases every week.

omg35 · 11/12/2020 18:45

I'm 31 weeks and won't be seeing anyone. Cases are skyrocketing round here and I'm pretty much of the opinion that just cos were allowed to socialise for a few days doesn't mean we should

Sixpencefaux · 11/12/2020 18:55

I will have just turned 28 weeks and also unsure. If anything I will just be seeing my parents for Christmas dinner.

Vicalam · 11/12/2020 23:40

I'll be 32 weeks at christmas and following the guidance for 3 households mixing. My mum is very careful as she's scared of catching it as is my partners mum as she had a heart attack at the beginning of the first lock down. I am a little anxious about it but the family have missed out on so much of the pregnancy anyway due to covid and it'll be nice to be able to see everyone

Sanch1 · 12/12/2020 09:25

I'll be 38 weeks Christmas Day and being induced New Year's Eve. We'll be mixing for the 5 days with the same two families, it's been too long without seeing them as far as I'm concerned and my existing two children deserve some contact with their family.

Thanks girls. I think I will just limit seeing my parents this year, to reduce the risk as much as poss. Hopefully in the new year once the vaccine has been rolled out more things will start to look up! X

I had it during my first trimester and the rest of my pregnancy was not affected by catching it so inthink the un born baby is safe from it. However the cough you can get with it can be horrendous and I really wouldn't recommend having it during the 3rd trimester when your lung capacity is already limited and you can feel breathless just walking around, xx

DanceM1 · 14/12/2020 20:23

I caught it at 22 weeks. I'm also asthmatic and it is still affecting my breathing now. I really wouldn't like to get it again any later on in the pregnancy as I was quite unwell but I wasn't hospital kind of ill! I'm a teacher so cannot avoid mixing with other people so yes, plan to see my family over Christmas. However, my family have all been very careful and sisters who are travelling here for Christmas are isolating before coming up (mainly to protect my mum and dad at this stage).

Sixpencefaux · 14/12/2020 20:58

@DanceM1 are school letting you isolate after 28 weeks?

DanceM1 · 15/12/2020 16:12

@Sixpencefaux although I'm actually nearly 29 weeks, I haven't had this discussion yet. Saw my consultant today and wanted to wait to see what he said. I know that my LA are not allowing pregnant women to wfh after 28 weeks but my consultant said I should be and that school really should be making sure that happens. Im going to speak to my head tomorrow 😬😬 are you also a teacher?

Sixpencefaux · 15/12/2020 17:01

@DanceM1 yes also a teacher and in the same predicament!

DanceM1 · 15/12/2020 20:26

@Sixpencefaux its a tricky one isn't it! How far along are you? Have you spoken with your head about it yet?

Sixpencefaux · 15/12/2020 20:36

@DanceM1 I have met with the head and he said we can meet again when I am 28 weeks to discuss how I’m feeling but that’s it.

DanceM1 · 18/12/2020 09:08

@Sixpencefaux just to update you..I spoke with my head this week- I'm going to be in school but out of class after Christmas until mat leave (ill be 31/32 weeks after Christmas. Ill have my own little room to work in so I'm happy with that.

Sixpencefaux · 18/12/2020 09:55

@DanceM1 that is great news! Are you secondary or primary? What kind of jobs will you be doing if not teaching?
