Heartburn, what can I take?

Hi, I'm 16+4 weeks pregnant and have been getting bad heartburn at night which is stopping me from sleeping. I was just wondering what is safe to take? Rennies, Gaviscon etc? If nothing is recommended, any other tips for dealing with it? I'd love to get some sleep🙈😂

I found whole milk works Smile

Pink lady apples, love heart sweets, xxx mints. I ended up on omeprazole though!

BeesAnkles · 10/12/2020 23:08

My gyne told me to take Gaviscon and Ranitidine when I was pregnant. The latter, which worked a treat, has been withdrawn unfortunately.

RollneckJumper · 10/12/2020 23:08

I chowed down on Rennie's almost every day during pregnancy due to horrendous heartbeat

FestiveChristmasLights · 10/12/2020 23:10

Ask your GP for omeprazole.

AmIOrNo5 · 10/12/2020 23:14

I bought heartburn tablets from wilko. They were a bit like Tums. You can get fruit flavour or peppermint. I popped them like sweets throughout my pregnancy

Shawla92 · 10/12/2020 23:38

Gaviscon tablets have been a lifesaver for me. If you have a home bargains or BnM near you I'd stock up from there as they are £1 per pack and in the last part of ny pregnancy I have been buying up to 5 packs per week :)

Peptac worked wonders for me, also free as part of Care at the Chemist scheme for pregnant women x

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 11/12/2020 00:26

Gaviscon. I got through bottles of the stuff

seashellseashell123 · 11/12/2020 00:28

Tesco's own brand heart burn tablets are fairly inoffensive tasting and have done the job for me. Much cheaper than gaviscon too.

justsotiredallthetime · 11/12/2020 00:29

Another vote for Omeprazole. Don't waste your time on over the counter remedies.

NoIdea1234 · 11/12/2020 00:33

Ask your GP for Omeprazole. I had really bad heartburn and Gaviscon/Rennie stopped working after a while, but Omeprazole was amazing - no more heartburn.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 11/12/2020 00:42

Gaviscon

Have you been drinking a lot of mint tea? That can also cause it naturally.

Loz1093 · 11/12/2020 03:08

Ask your GP for Omeprazole! After weeks-months drinking Gaviscon and taking Rennies, I couldn't cope any longer. Wish I'd have just asked for the help a long time ago x

nocturnalke · 11/12/2020 03:14

Gaviscon by the bottle! I got to the point where that wasn't doing anything so like others have said to go GP and explain not sleeping. The tablets worked within a day!

PFin · 11/12/2020 03:42

Im 18 weeks and have horrific heartburn. Had it all through with baby no 1. too. Gaviscon was a life saver. They have brought out a new double action one its got the pink on it and it works far better for me than standard gaviscon, rennies etc.

TeddyBeans · 11/12/2020 03:45

I went through so many packets of Rennie's while I was pregnant 😂 it was enough for me but there are things your GP can prescribe that are stronger (as mentioned above)

Inkpaperstars · 11/12/2020 03:48

You can take Rennies or Gaviscon but if you having to use them a lot, it's better according to my doctor to take omeprazole instead.

Lou98 · 11/12/2020 16:14

Thank you everyone, I took rennies last night and managed to get some sleep. I went out today and picked up a few of the other things mentioned.

I never realised omeprazole was safe in pregnancy, I'll definitely speak to my GP on Monday and see about getting some
