Flu Jab Early Pregnancy

Hi!

I'm 4+3 and would like to get my flu Jab sooner rather than later for obvious reasons.

I'm still waiting for my midwife to call after self referring. So I haven't had any 'official' tests. Just a bucket load of BFPs on home tests 😂

Can I ask for a flu Jab immediately without having had any official confirmation that I'm pregnant? Scared to ask as the receptionists at my GP aren't the friendliest bunch...

I had mine at my 12 week scan but I don’t know if that’s just how my local hospital do it. The midwife will know what the local policy is

I've just had mine today, I didnt have any 'official' tests or any thing, I just rang my gp, said I was pregnant and asked for a flu jab! They booked me in for the next day, I'm only approx 5 weeks

I had mine before I found out I was pregnant, must have been about 3-4 weeks! It was fine.

Won't hurt to phone up and ask. I doubt they'd ask for proof but if they do you can wait a few weeks until you've had your booking appointment and got your notes etc and it's on their system and then book

Just ring the doctors and ask for the flu jab as your pregnant. They wont even look. Congratulations

Hi, I contacted my GP explained I was pregnant and they booked me in for it right away. I did have my booking appointment with my Midwife via telephone at around 6 weeks but GP took my word for it, they didn’t ask any invasive questions so I’m sure you’ll be fine xx

My midwife said you have to be minimum of 16 weeks otherwise it's pretty pointless and ineffective

@ivfbeenbusy that's weird! My hospital does it routine at 12 week scan. Are you sure she didnt mean whooping cough vaccine? You have to be 16 weeks + for that one to protect the baby, whereas the flu vaccine is just for you

I had mine at a pharmacy at 7 weeks. They didn’t ask for proof or anything (not that I had proof at that stage!)

@ivfbeenbusy your midwife is wrong, are you sure she wasn't talking about whooping cough?

The NHS website says:

Pregnant women are at risk of severe illness from flu at any stage of pregnancy, so you need to have the flu vaccine as soon as possible.

The best time to get vaccinated against whooping cough is from 16 weeks up to 32 weeks of pregnancy.

Everything I've read says it's perfectly safe to have flu Jab at any stage of pregnancy. And I can't imagine anything in pregnancy would prevent it from being effective 🤔

I was brave and called the GP this morning! Receptionist asked me how many weeks I was (4+4 today, 5 on Monday) and that was about as invasive as the questioning got!
