What could you see at 8 week scan?

Hi everyone. I had a scan a few weeks back when I was dated at 8+1. I was so delighted after two miscarriages to see the heartbeat. However, I’m just worrying that I couldn’t see as much as I should have been able to at that point. People have told me they could see a baby very clearly when they were 8 weeks. I’ve seen other scan photos where you can clearly see it’s a baby with a distinct head and body. To be honest mine just looks like a blob. I know it’s really early days so this could be completely normal but I’m just looking for other peoples experiences and what they think.

I think is really early days , it’s so hard to get a clear picture. My little one is now nearly 4 but I remember looking at the scan and it looked like a great big blob😂 if there was anything to worry about the person doing the ultra scan would have said. They grow. So fast and change quick at that time to so what one person might see at 8 weeks might not be the same as another. It’s such a stressful time and exciting time. This is my 8 week scan. You can kind of see a shape but definitely still looks like a blob!

At 8 weeks my babies looked like jelly babies. Very roughly baby shaped. I’ve had previous miscarriages too so know the scanxiety well.

It will depend on how much the sonographer zoomed in and at what angle. I’ve had scans at all gestations and even at 36 weeks just seen a blur so please don’t worry.

Sort of like a curled up sausage with a heartbeat.
Sonographer was happy so I was too.
It’s really hard to relax into a pregnancy after miscarriage, but you would have been told there and then if they had concerns.

I had a scan at 8 weeks...mine looked like sophi1207.

A blob, but with a bit of shape to it!

At 8 weeks it looked like a gummy bear.
Definitely not a baby. At 10 weeks had small legs and arms but still not a baby.
Even at 12 weeks looked like a small baby with an alien head.
By 16 weeks it was a proper little girl though.

We called ours a prawn... 😂 they definitely didn’t look baby shaped at 8 weeks!

I had mine at exactly 8 weeks. It was somewhere between a blob and a baby!

Mine looked like a jelly bean. By 12 weeks they look like a definite baby though

I had the same - a very blurry blob with no differentiation between head and body. I worried a little bit too. However, I discovered at my 12 week scan that my uterus is tilting slightly, which apparently explains the blurrier image. However absolutely everything is fine and baby is kicking along well. Hang in there and try not to worry, you'll see your little person somersaulting in no time.

I think it depends a lot on the newness of the equipment they are using. I had 8 week scans with my two kids, and both times it was just a little blob with a heartbeat and a halo. It can also look much more developed between 8+0 and 8+6.

Mine was the same as @sophi1207's too. If things are fine at the 8 week scan then the percentages of all going well are really in your favour. I don't think I relaxed until 20 weeks each time I had a pregnancy that carried so I know how hard it is x

I had a scan at 8+5. Baby looked like a gummy bear.

Here are my scan pics from 7 weeks and 10 weeks. In the first pic the circle on the left in the sac is the yolk sac and baby is just a squiggly line. At 10 weeks she still had a tail! They take a while to actually look like babies don't worry

And a feotus at 8 weeks looks like this and measures less than 1 inch in size so it's no surprise if it doesn't look like much on a scan xx

I had mine at 9 plus 4 and she looked like a tiny baby then 😊

I would say at eight weeks though I don't think they look like babies just yet so yours sounds perfectly normal 😊

Had a private scan at 8 weeks but she measured me at 7wks 2 days, it was literally just a circle with no shape at all. I was worried but it had a heartbeat. Then came the 12 week scan and it was perfect!
