Lack of weight gain at 23 weeks

Hi there, so I’m 23 weeks 5 days now and hadn’t really gained anything up until 20 weeks when I was super happy to have gained 3lbs. I have just got scales to weigh myself again (last ones broke) and I’m still same weight! Bump is getting bigger and 20 week scan showed all was on schedule but I’m worried I’m not gaining. I was at the top of the overweight category at start just Under obese. Is this normal or should I be worried. Will baby be gettin all they need? I have changed my diet due to concerns I may become diabetic (pcos & previous high blood sugar during fertility test) but to date all blood test are fine I’ve just tried to eat healthier. Any advice would be lovely!

It's perfectly fine if overweight to begin with. Iv had 4 pregnancies and been overweight to begin with all of them and actually lost weight during pregnancy. After they have been born I'm usually about 2 stone lighter than I was before

It's perfectly fine, most weight gain will happen between 20&30 weeks in my experience.

I didn't gain anything until about half way through then gained 1.5 stones between 20&37 weeks (nothing after that).

Had my son 6 days ago and am only 2lbs over my pre pregnancy weight now.

DS was 8lb8oz when born, perfectly healthy.

I’m 33 weeks and only put on 1.5 kg so far. Midwife isn’t worried and baby seems to be growing ok

Absolutely fine, if you start overweight your want to gain less overall. My BMI when I got pregnant was 27, I put on about 30lbs in my whole pregnancy and over a stone was gone within a week of him coming out. Hardly put on anything till the 3rd trimester and most was the baby.

Hi OP, I had my 36 week midwife appointment this morning and have literally gained absolutely nothing! She said it was perfectly normal and I clearly have a bump... with Christmas nibbles on the way I'm kind of glad I've gained nothing so far!🤣 x

I was also high BMI when I got pregnant (31/32) and didn’t gain anything until around 28-30 weeks and atm have gained 6kg (I’m 37+6). It’s good when you’re overweight at the start to gain less overall and I have an extra growth scan next week as baby was measuring 94th percentile on his belly at 20 weeks (when I hadn’t gained anything) so certainly doesn’t seem to have slowed him down and my belly is huge now! Your midwife will let you know if she’s worried but baby tends to make sure to get everything they need, as others have said it’s probably you slightly losing some due to that and your healthier eating (well done btw!)

I'm 36+4. weeks and I have only put on 4lbs, baby is measuring small but the midwives don't seem concerned at all! I would say it's nothing to worry about Smile

Don't worry, baby will be fine. I had HG and lost weight whilst pg but DS was born healthy and happy.

Obese mothers are generally advised to keep weight gain to an absolute minimum, and avoid it if possible, so it might actually be good for you.
