How did you manage/are managing in pregnancy? Did your symptoms get worse and when? Thank you!

I was wondering this as I suffer from cystitis everytime I have sex and I read that trimethoprim isn’t safe during the first trimester. My doctor prescribes me a repeat prescription of trimethoprim to take one tablet after sex and it’s the only thing that saves me. I’m too scared to have sex with my husband incase I get a flare up!

Used to suffer from chronic cystitis but no sign of anything since pregnant.
But also barely having any sex...

I'm 9 weeks and had 2 courses of different antibiotics (Nitrofurantoin and then Cefalexin) earlier on this pregnancy to clear a nasty UTI that came on after TTC. So Trimethoprim isn't the only option @Lola19
Smile. I must say this UTI is one of the worst I've ever had, not sure if it's coincidental or due to the pregnancy.

So far nothing has returned but that's probably because we haven't had sex since I got pregnant! My husband and I are both a bit anxious so trying to wait until after my first scan next week even though we both know sex is fine in pregnancy. I also don't want to have to deal with another UTI right now on top of the usual first trimester symptoms.

I've suffered from recurrent UTIs for about 10 years now. I'm bracing myself for them to continue as I've heard everyone is more prone to UTIs when pregnant.

Pregnancy seemed to stop my recurrent ITI’s

I stopped using antibiotics for recurrent UTI’s a long time ago though

The best thing to help me was D Mannose

Thank you, everyone! I've been struggling since August with an UTI that just does not seem to go away. Just over 3 weeks into full-dose Cephalexin and might have to stay on it for a few months. Have had quite a few good days, but bladder pain (abdominal and some back pain) and some urgency again in the last couple of days. And I'm just under 4 weeks pregnant and worried due to having had multiple miscarriages. Awaiting urine culture results. Any advice from anyone is a similar situation is much appreciated.
