How long did it take from pessary to contractions / waters going?
Second baby but only 36 weeks...
It's been 5 hours nearly, and nothing but a few mild cramps 😩
Think I'm here for the long haul....!

Had it with my 4th baby, it took ages... pessery in about 9am and didn't get any contractions till about 4pm, but then it soon speeded up and baby was born a couple hours later!

Hi all, just wondering, did anyone else find them putting in the pessary very uncomfortable?! Not really sure what I was expecting to be honest, but just wanted to make sure I wasnt alone...?!

Just had first one put in!

endoftether51 · 07/12/2020 21:18

@ceebee21 yup

bluemonday2020 · 07/12/2020 21:47

Sorry to slightly change the subject but do all inductions start with a pessary? Can you not ask for a drip instead? Is a drip offered if pessary doesn’t work?

Bellbell1199 · 07/12/2020 21:53

Only just had my waters broke at half 8.
Refused a third pessary!

Mine hurt as much as the actual giving birth 😷
Bellbell1199 · 07/12/2020 23:19

One 24 hour pessary... Nothing... One 6 hour gel... Nothing....
Waters broke... 3 hours later no contractions.
It's just my body hating labour all over again!

The pessary didn't hurt me at all, but then I don't find internals uncomfortable either. Everyone's different. I'm a massive wuss when it comes to needles so there you go lol.

How's it going op?!

Bellbell1199 · 09/12/2020 06:28

Hi everyone.
Baby girl arrived yesterday morning at 08.39 via Cs in the end.
The broke waters 8 30 the night before.
No contractions at all, went on the drip, no contractions at all, epidural... Amazing.
Even when they temped up my drip. Not a whole lot happened.
Midwife examined again at 6.40am, cervix no different to when she broke My waters, if anything worse.
She got consultant in as she thought baby had moved and yes she was making her way to being breech again!!
Isobel Grace 5lb 5oz. In nicu being observed but doing well so far.
Hopefully she can come on the ward with me today.

Wonderful news op - congratulations!

MyGazeboisLeaking · 09/12/2020 06:54

Oh wow, congratulations OP. What a long few days you've had. Congratulations on your beautiful girl.

4starbie · 09/12/2020 09:26

Aw congratulations

ShirleyPhallus · 09/12/2020 14:39

Ah OP, almost exactly the same thing happened to me. My body just did not want to let this baby out quite yet, I also ended up with c-section. PM me if you need any tips on recovery or anything!

Huge congratulations, hope she’s out of NICU ASAP and you can enjoy some gorgeous new baby cuddles Flowers

endoftether51 · 09/12/2020 15:32

It doesn't surprise me you had such a hard time with it being only 36 weeks your body would have just been fighting it the whole time
So glad you're both ok

OnNaturesCourse · 09/12/2020 22:05

I had the pessary at 37 weeks because of reduced movements.

Got it at 11pm, by 11pm the next night I was moved to the labour ward, baby born 9am the following day.

I did get the drip when I was on the labour ward as my contractions weren't stronger enough apparently.

When I first got the pessary I was fine, until about 2 hours later when my back felt like it was being crushed under a 10 tonne weight. Pain meds helped and I got some sleep, on waking everything had settled down. I done a lot of walking that day while waiting for it to work.

I was starting to dilate naturally when I first got the pessary however so that may have sped things up?

MrsP1991 · 12/12/2020 22:18

Congratulations!

How are you and baby doing?

Bellbell1199 · 13/12/2020 06:13

Hey, thank you @MrsP1991
I'm doing OK, although extremely sore from CS.
I think I have an infection brewing as all night I've been hot then shivering.
Midwife is coming today so will ask to check and for some antibiotics.
I'm so overwhelmed and tearful, keep having flashbacks of theatre, her not breathing, the rush of people.

Baby doing OK, she's feeding every 2.5-3 hours expressed or formula. We're finally up to 40-50 mls every 3 hours.
She won't take the breast well yet, midwife said it's too hard for her as she's premature.
She has lost 5% in 3 days, coming back today to check weight and jaundice levels.
Hopefully she wont have lost too much more.

Gosh big hugs @Bellbell1199 you've really been through it.

One step at a time hun and tell your mw everything about the flashbacks too.

I take it Isobel is home with you then- that's brilliant well done.

You've been through so much the last couple of weeks, please look after you too Biscuit
