Can continuous cramping and brown discharge in early pregnancy lead to a healthy pregnancy?

Hi Girls x

I'm very early in my pregnancy 4 weeks+6 and for 10 days I've had constant period pain like cramps and the last 3 days I've had light brown/pink discharge. My doctor yesterday did not reassure me in the slightest- said it could lead to a failed pregnancy and to just preg test weekly and phone back when i'm 6 weeks if still pregnant. I'm freaking out!!! Please help tia xx

Hey, I had quite bad cramps for the first 4-8 weeks every single day, I’d even say they were worse than the period pains I get. It really did worry me but now I’m 10 weeks and haven’t really had any cramps for a while. I think in those early weeks your uterus needs to expand a lot in a short amount of time so cramps is to be expected. Obviously everyone experiences things differently though and will get different levels of pain to others, some women will get some light cramping whilst others will experience moderate cramping and thus more painful.

I have also had brown discharge on and off since around 6 weeks and still get it a couple days a week, but everything seems to be fine so far. I had a scan at 8 weeks and baby is absolute fine. Of course if you’re worried I’d call 111 and see if they can offer you some advice, but because your pregnancy is before 6 weeks they won’t be able to see anything on a scan so they can’t really check anything until 6 weeks. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry, the fact it’s brown/pink and not red is good. I’d imagine you would have been on your period now or just finished your period if you weren’t pregnant, right? Some women experience spotting around the time their periods are due, even right the way through their pregnancies. If it does turn red though go to a&e as soon as you can.

Wishing you all the best and a happy & healthy pregnancy! x

Thank you so much for this it has definitely put me at ease a little bit knowing it could be a normal symptom. Yes I suppose I would be due on around this time so could be that! Yes it's definitely a period type pain I won't miss is it ever goes! Thank you again xxx
