Period like cramps at 5 weeks 2 days pregnant?

I’ve been having a few period like aches since finding out I’m pregnant on Monday, doctor said I’m 5 weeks 2 days from the first day of my last period. The aches are like bad back ache low down and a bit of tummy ache also? I’m worrying I’m going to end up miscarrying :( I don’t remember having these aches when I was pregnant with my first child. Has anyone else had these pains early on in pregnancy and still had a healthy full term pregnancy? I’m getting myself all worked up and worried sick that I’m going to lose this babySad

Oh, yes OP...totally normal and actually a good sign that your body is doing what it's supposed to! The extra blood flow to your uterus, as well as stretching and adjusting causes the cramps. Cramping was the first sign of pregnancy for me, for all four of my pregnancies. Absolutely, totally normal and expected! Congratulations.

@Somethingsnappy thank you! I was just worrying because I thought that the cramps might of eased off a bit now as I’m 5 weeks but I suppose it is probably just stretching pains Smile

I think mine came and went for the whole of the first trimester! They could disappear for weeks and then start again for a day or two. It's very disconcerting just how similar they feel to period pains. Nature's annoying joke!

I was the same as you at 5 weeks! I was so scared but GP told me it was normal and DS is now 4 so yes it is normal but if you have any bleeding seek help.
