C-section for breech - how many weeks gestation were you?

I am currently 35 weeks with my third pregnancy and soooo ready to get it over and done with. The baby is currently breech and for various reasons not expected to turn, so based on your experience, how hopeful can I be of a c-section at 38 weeks? I shall sob if they make me wait til 40 weeks - the heartburn is killing me!

My c-section was only a week before my actual due date (years ago now so I can't remember how many weeks that is) but that might have been because the breech was only diagnosed the day before.

glomerulus · 28/11/2020 16:59

They aim for 39 weeks for breech, but might be slightly earlier depending on availability.

[Flowers] and gaviscon for you. Good luck!

glomerulus · 28/11/2020 16:59

Flowers even...

Gooseybby · 28/11/2020 17:01

They didnt spot i was breech until 42wks....

WalkingMeAway · 28/11/2020 17:01

Both my planned sections (One for breech) were at 38+6. They were adamant they wouldn’t be before.

AuntLucy · 28/11/2020 17:05

39 weeks is boxing day. Nobody wants to do a perform a c-section on boxing day, do they? Pleeaaaasssseee..

OfDragonsDeep · 28/11/2020 17:20

39+3 here and 39 exactly for the 2nd (only the first was breech though)

I have a c section booked 30thdecember

PinGwyn · 28/11/2020 17:23

39+5.

DD is 7 now so it might have changed but my consultant told me that they tend to wait to term unless necessary.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/11/2020 20:10

36+6 weeks, on the 23/12. That was the last pre christmas slot at my hospital 5 years ago.

orangejuicer · 28/11/2020 20:11

39w for me! (Big baby, not breech)

Ejb86 · 28/11/2020 20:21

39w. Had him 21.12. Otherwise would have been waiting until well after xmas.

Bellbell1199 · 28/11/2020 20:35

Hi, OP!
I'm also 35 weeks today, heartburn is Killing me. All my movements are so low down.
I have a scan monday to see if she's still breech but have a strong suspicion she is!
I'll be 39 weeks boxing day too, so was wondering the same thing!
I was hoping to have her before Xmas!

sunset900 · 28/11/2020 20:42

39+4 for me

lorisparkle · 28/11/2020 20:51

With ds1 I had him at 38 weeks by planned c-section as he was breech however since then I think they have changed the guidelines. With ds3 I had to have another c-section and wanted it as early as possible but they would only do 39 weeks.

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 28/11/2020 21:01

40+2

Smellybluecheese · 28/11/2020 21:03

39+1

BlueCookieMonster · 28/11/2020 21:07

They normally do elective c-sections after 39 weeks due to the associated respiratory issues that can arise from doing them prior to this. Can you get some omeprazole from the GP?

princesspeppax · 28/11/2020 21:09

Booked for 39 weeks, but ended up in labour before the date so was born 38+5

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 28/11/2020 21:16

38+6 - brought forward a few days due to baby being footling breech so risky if I went into labour naturally

JumperooSue · 28/11/2020 21:21

At my trust they don’t do elective c sections before 39 due to research it increased the risk of the baby having respiratory problems. Any c section before this would require steroid cover to help the lungs but this would not include breech. They wouldn’t do it Boxing Day in my trust then no electives at the weekend so it would be the 28th I imagine unless your trust do weekend elective c sections!

Ratbagratty · 28/11/2020 21:21

37 for first beach baby but only because of hellp syndrome was looking at 39 weeks. 2nd beach baby they wanted me to have c section at 39 weeks but I didn't want it then and negotiated going to 40weeks.

Dyra · 28/11/2020 21:38

Boxing day is a Saturday this year right?

I imagine very few trusts do electives at the weekend. Less so over the festive period. My trust also don't do them on Bank Holidays, so you're probably going to be scheduled in for the 29th, 30th or 31st.

If they're too busy, they might want to go earlier and think about a 38 week section instead. I think they'd prefer that over a post-dates breech section, and run the risk of you going into labour and needing an emergency section

loveacupoftea18 · 28/11/2020 23:30

Following with interest as am in exactly the same position - 35 weeks today and breech.

Was sort of wishfully thinking I'd meet the baby before Christmas but sounds like it'll be the week after going on these experiences...
