Below average range ultrasound measurement at 20 weeks

Hi all,

Looking for some reassurance about our 20 week scan - one of the ultrasound measurements (BPD) was under normal range for the baby’s age. The sonographer didn’t say anything about it (basically threw us out the door as it was 5pm on a Friday) and said everything was fine, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Any advice for a worried pregnant lady? Thanks in advance for your advice.

What do you mean by "below average" and "under normal" as both would mean different things to me?
Also which measurement was it?

BPD is one of many measurements (from what i understand from my scans).
And below average, i guess you mean under 50% centile? Which is normal still.
What does your report say exactly?
These measurements are not the most accurate. If the sonographer didn't flag anything as abnormal, i would not worry.
Mine had Femur length on 18 % centile and i did ask if that was ok and the MW reminded me that babies just like humans come in all shapes and forms. There isn't one standard size. It's also early and your baby will be changing...
Try not to worry!

Hello, sorry for not responding sooner, didn’t keep track of the thread. The result was very low, below 5th percentile - which was worrying. However spoke to the obstetrician subsequently and she said that as long as the head circumference was within normal range (which it was, just over 50th percentile), they generally don’t worry about bpd. So have accepted that this is one less thing for me to stress about Smile. Thanks for responses.

Hi - I also noticed this on my scan, some were well under the 50th line however... on a follow up scan ( nothing size related) I asked the fetal medicine doctor and he said ignore those it's nothing to worry about, if it's something to be concerned about they will tell you

I had the same worries as the measurements seemed all over the pace!

I wouldn't worry ☺️
