Haven't put on much weight during pregnancy, will my baby be small?

Just curious to hear others stories! I'm 35+2 and I've put on just over a stone (7.5kg) since my booking appt at 8 weeks. My BMI at booking was 29 so a bit overweight to start with anyway. My bump is measuring just under average but has stayed on the same curve so midwife is happy.
My question is has anyone else only gained a small amount of weight and gone on to have a big baby? My first was over 9lb (although I put on almost 3st with her) so wondering whether this one will be smaller or could still be just as big!

Gained 1kg in total and baby was 7lb 12oz at full term

2gorgeousboys · 22/11/2020 18:25

I put on hardly anything (and you could only tell I was pregnant from the side!) and DS1 weight 8lb 4oz.

Itsyoouu · 22/11/2020 18:26

I hardly put on any weight when I was pregnant, just over a stone. I'm 5'11 midwife said I was just really lucky she was all tucked in and was born at 8lbs. I have no idea how tall you are or if that helps in any way.

Hi,

I think the weight you have put on is totally normal and healthy.
With BMI of 29 you are supposed to put on 15 pounds (about 7 kg) according to this website which i used before.

I wouldn't worry about your baby being small! I am sure he will be just as he should be :)
And congratulations!

I lost weight in all my pregnancies. Babies ranged from 7lb-9.5lb.

Garman · 22/11/2020 18:44

That's a normal amount of weight to have put on, have your scans all suggested baby is a healthy weight so far?

Twitchett22 · 22/11/2020 18:53

@Garman I've only had a 12 and 20 week scan so they don't check the weight. I think I'm just suprised because with my first I put on loads of weight everywhere - face, legs, bump was big and obviously she was big when she was born. This time I've only put weight on my bump and boobs, I just didn't know if there was any correlation between that and size of baby but I guess I'll find out in a few weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️

Remember some people never know they are pregnant and have average sized babies. Also I put loads on in the last month (and then was very overdue).

hotpotlover · 22/11/2020 18:57

Be glad that you're in this position. I'm currently almost 4 months postpartum and still have 1.5 stones to lose. I regret that I ate so much during pregnancy.

shellby28 · 22/11/2020 18:59

On the other end of the spectrum, I put on 4.5st and my baby weighed 5lb12. I don't think there is any relation between weight gain and baby size. Your little one will be perfect, congratulations!

MonkeyPuddle · 22/11/2020 19:00

I put on 10kg and had a 10lb baby

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 22/11/2020 19:01

Barely left my size 8 clothes. Ds was 9-3...
Dd was 6-13 and I gained 2 stone.

L4uz · 22/11/2020 19:03

I'm interested to see how this goes OP... I'm 36 weeks and only put on 6lb in total. All measurements are in line with the curve so baby is growing as should be. I'm just concerned as my mum put on almost 3 stone when she had me!

Twitchett22 · 22/11/2020 19:04

Thanks for all your comments, I guess there isn't a pattern so we'll just wait and see!

I put on a stone and a half and gave birth at 42weeks. No extra weight anywhere apart from bump. I'm tall so not sure if that helped! Baby weighed 8lb and is perfect!!

BurningBenches · 22/11/2020 19:06

My second, third and fourth pregnancies I gained about a stone each time and all of it from week 28 onwards.

Babies were 8lb15, 9lb10 and 9lb5 (but induced 2 weeks earlier than #3)

So my experience has been my weight gain and babies size are not linked. Sadly as soon as my babies are born I go straight back to gaining weight really easily.

Terriblecreature · 22/11/2020 19:09

With DS1 I gained 3 and half stone (he was born 41 +6) and weighed 8lbs 1oz. However, I was so so bloated the last few weeks, I think it was mostly water. By the time he was 5 months old I weighed less than I did pre-pregnancy.
Currently 25 weeks pregnant with DS2 and have gained around 1 stone and 4lbs 🙈 I hadn't gained much weight at all up until 17 weeks, I was terribly sick up until then, but now I can't stop eating. I will probably gain the same amount of weight this time around. Just for reference my BMI at check in was 24.8 x

TheDetectiveBadge · 22/11/2020 19:11

My friend had a baby recently and she was tiny. At 9 months pregnant she looked like I do after a big meal! I assumed her baby would be very small but he popped out at a pretty good 8lbs. I have no idea where he was hiding but he was certainly a very healthy weight.

Tearsfortiers · 22/11/2020 19:14

I lost 2.5 stone and had an 8lb 5 baby.

Oneandabean · 22/11/2020 19:30

I was just over 29 bmi at booking in, I weigh exactly the same now at 30 weeks and baby measuring on 90th centile
