Obese ladies 1st trimester weight loss
13

Namechange8471 · 21/11/2020 16:39

Hi there, does anyone have any experience with weight loss in the first trimester?

I started at 18 stone when i was first pregnant, I am now 16.8 at 9 weeks. Whilst i am pleased my bmi is now under 40 I'm a little worried!

Midwife says the weight loss is fine and to just keep an eye on it.

Anyone else?

Hello, yes! I had morning sickness and then reduced appetite.

I do my scales in pounds... I was 256lbs when I fell pregnant and 228lbs 2 days after the birth! I'm 5ft 5.5inches.

I had a very straight forward pregnancy. I remember my midwife saying no weight gain is fine, although they never knew about the weight loss as I was only weighed once.

It’s fine I was 82.4kg at my booking in appointment, now nearly 31 weeks and still weigh exactly the same. Midwife isn’t worried. Just make sure you’re eating the right foods and try and stay active.

I lost nearly 2.5 stone from beginning to delivery of baby. Awful morning sickness was the reason. Midwife wasn’t concerned as I had it to lose. I wouldn’t worry as long as your eating health and drinking lots of fluids. X

I lost a little over 3 stone from beginning to end of my pregnancy. I started at 22stone and ended just under 19. No sickness or illness, just a textbook pregnancy from start to finish and we had no problems at all

I’m currently 26 weeks and am still 11lbs down from my booking in weight so I’ve definitely been losing weight whilst baby is growing. My midwife said it’s totally fine to lose while pregnant they just won’t tell you to do it, baby takes everything it needs. I was really poorly early on which meant I lost about a stone and am just being very sensible with food. Some days I’m hungrier than others so will have extra fruit instead of something bad. Hoping to weigh the same by time this one makes his entrance then I’ll be less once he’s out 😂
I said to my midwife although my BMI is high if I maintain I must still be healthier than someone who puts on 5-6 stone while pregnant and she agreed. My BP etc is all totally normal and clear for diabetes, no issues being caused by my BMI at all.

Yep, lost 3 stone first pregnancy and 1 stone so far in this one (at 8 weeks). I don't think it matters at all - in fact, it's a good thing!

This is really good to read! I'm 4+5 weeks and weigh 245lb and I was worrying what the midwife would say at my booking appointment about weight etc. I'm hoping to naturally loose some weight as I feel a lot more active since I found out and I've cut out coke, coffees and alcohol which I'm sure account to many calories 😂

Hi OP, I lost just over a stone in first trimester through sickness alone. Now 34 weeks and still yet to put on a pound. Had extra growth scans and baby is still cooking perfectly in the oven! Good luck. 💕

Something that has just popped into my head - the ladies who have had high bmis, were you considered a 'high risk' pregnancy? Are you able to try for a water birth etc?

I wasn't allowed because of my BMI. I was quite happy with the choices given to me though.

In my first pregnancy, I was consultant led but I wanted to use the birth suite with the pool etc and midwife led. I ended up having a meeting at 30 ish weeks with the lead midwife and she authorised it. It all ended in an emergency section though and I'm going elective this time! But you certainly can ask, and if you're well and things are going well in the pregnancy they'll consider it.

Thank you everyone, that's really helpful. I'm going to see what my midwife says and go from there 😊 just good to know it has been done lol
